anyone straightpipe thier 3.0?

I had a friend who had a 97 probe gt a while ago, he cut the muffler out and welded in a straight pipe, but left the cats in, it sounded good.

Anyone do it on a 3.0? how does it sound?

or is there a good sounding cheap muffler I can buy and weld that in? I dont care about performance gains really, I just want it to sound a little better

you'll loose back pressure which means loss in torque. it's not worth it to have a completely abnoxious exhaust

i think it's auto mechanics 101 (pretty sure). You lose backpressure...

maybe it's in your head... or the fact that you have a tuner and intake..

Yeah, the tuner and intake probably make up for it some. Im not really sure, if there is any difference its not really enough to matter to me. However, I am thinking of having the shop take my y pipe after the cat out and put a si/do flowmaster 40 in there.

I have a 4.0 I does seem like a little tourque loss but top end seems better, With 2 or 3 cats, and a y pipe I dont think it's lost that much backpressure.

I agree with the above posts, it sounds beefy as hell but i lost some power. Im now running a glasspack and 2.5 inch pipe exiting out the side in front of the rear tire. the 90* bend actually reduces the sound and gives more back preasure then the glasspack.....but couldnt pass inspection without it. truck runs great now.

I ran mine straight piped for about 3-4 months. Put a 2-chamber flowmaster on with a turndown and immediately felt a gain in torque.
