Hey guys, I searched the How-To forums and also did a search in this forum, but nothing came up.

I was wondering if there were any tips or advice for replacing both the front and rear brake pads of my truck. It's a 2002 Ranger Edge, 3.0. Any special tools? Anything different than normal brake pad changes?

Ex. I replaced my rear pads on my Mustang and I needed a tool that screws in the caliper piston. Do I need anything like that for the Ranger?

 

the rear brakes use DRUM SHOES not pads

unless you converted over to disc`s in the rear

 

No special tools, I just used a 'c' clamp to compress the caliper. I'm pretty sure there's a how-to for both the front pads and rear drums on this site.

 

Ya that's what I meant. I only have experience replacing disc brakes. I didn't know if the drums required any special tools or special directions.

I'll try looking around again.

 

drum brakes are a diffrent animal. have someone around that has done them before and only do one side at a time. when you screw up you want something to look at to see how to do it right.

 

The Ranger's drum brakes are a snap. Just take your time and you will easily see how they work.

 

Yeah replaced the front brake pads. Quick and easy.

The rears are still plenty good, so I'll wait a while longer to do them. Watched a quick video on how to do them, and they look simple enough. I quick snaps of the springs and they fall out.

I work on large Mack Concrete Pump Trucks and they use drum brakes, so you would think I'd be a little more knowledgable on them :)

 

I did my drums last month. only tools I used was a set of regular pliers, channel lock pliers, a regular screwdriver, and some elbow grease.

 

just go take to rear disks off the stang, and put them on you ranger, omly takes a few hours ifyou have ever thing you need. then youll have pads for both front and rear
