05 Ford Ranger Catalyic problems

Hello, my 05 Ranger with the 3.0 engine recently lost all power and I have been told by a mechanic that it's caused by my catalyic converters system being clogged, I took them off, knocked them out and welded them back on, however I am having the same problem and i don't know why. Do I need to buy a whole new Y pipe with the new converters?

did you find the problem? if its doing the same with cats out i would look at spark. just one spark plug or spark wire out makes a noticable difference.

You might just want to leave the catalytic converter off and try running it with an open header. That would tell you if it was an exhaust issue. Also check to make sure the exhaust manifold is secured. I had a buddy have his fall off driving down the road from the bolts coming off it.

last summer i tried leaving my pipe off to test a rear main seal installation so one less thing to take off it leaked again. I just had my headers on and i could not make it a mile down the road before i turned around. It was so loud i could not take it.

I would replace coil, wires, and plugs. unless someone shoved stuff up your tail pipe i dont think it would be your pipe. try tapping throughout see if a place sounds odd. but with as many cats are on vehicles now and days you may have a bad one.

if not air flow problem, or spark problem then time to check fuel delivery. replace fuel filter.

Let us know what the problem is if you find out or have found out so anybody with the same symptoms will have some ideas on what to look for
