AC Vacuum leak diagnosis (2002 Ranger 4.0)
I've been having issues with pesky squirrels and/or chipmunks that like to chew on the innards of my Ranger (in signature) and have been able to solder all of the wiring that they have eaten near my airbox, which caused quite a problem with lights, horn and other check engine type things...they seem to love the wooded area i parked it in for a few weeks. My wife hasn't let me them yet even though I've got a few hours into the rewire and part replacement and can hear them chattering in the nearby trees as I trudge forth...
The only outstanding issue now is that my AC defaults to defroster no matter where I place it and I remember having this with a 1995 ranger years ago and what it was, line was scorched by manifold. This doesn't seem to be the case and from what I can find I think we're close, but missing one line. I've scoured the interwebs and came up short for my exact model and what should be going into the bottom of the bulb, but i feel like a line needs to be there.
I've taken the line from the heater control valve (i think) shown in 4573 image attached into the bottom port of the bulb above and at idle it seems to open the port behind the glove box, but I know it cant be right, it seems the top rubber line in the bulb is thicker and that's the line I'm missing.
I cannot seem to find where it comes from/where it goes, my assumption is the bottom of the bulb, but where does it go to so I can trace it to see if it's missing or just misplaced. I've looked at other lines and the only other one I see on that side is the one that runs to the back of the engine... shown in 4574 image attached.
Thanks in advance for any guidance, images, etc. to help me track down this line and get my AC back up and running, maybe my pregnant wife will let me take the truck out with her once this is fixed

Defrost is the default selection of the air direction door in the cab.
So when off, or if no vacuum, Defrost vent is selected.
There should be 2 vacuum lines going into the firewall.
One goes to the vacuum reservoir(the bulb/ball), usually black
The other one goes to the heat valve on heater hose.
Vacuum follows this path
(Vacuum source)upper intake vacuum manifold-----------"Bulb"--------|firewall|------[control panel]
Other line
[control panel]--------|firewall|--------------heat control valve
The "bulb" does have an IN/OUT, I think the top is IN, so hooks to intake manifold, bottom goes to firewall, but not sure

It should go in right near to the Gray line, then it runs to the climate control panel.

The one in Red circle is the one you have, the grey one, heater valve vacuum line
