Adding power to the OHV?

well my parents offered to buy my something for my truck for my 18th birthday next month, and im thinking i want to get something for more power out of my truck. i know nothing will make a huge difference but a little power adder never hurts. i pretty much narrowed it down to......

1 headers

2 x-cal tuner

3 underdrive pulleys

what would be the best to start off with? i have a stock engine. (i dont count my k&n intake) it would be nice to see a noticeable difference. i didnt see what i was looking for when i looked it up with the search button so how about some opinions? i dont know much about tuners or pulleys

yeah from what i understand its hard to get much more power out of a OHV. If there was a simple way to get a decent gain with very little money spent I would do it myself. Sometimes i feel like my truck doesn't have enough power even though it has the 4.0..

Honestly if the engine is in good running condition, I don't see you're going to gain a lot from any of those. Intake/headers etc are really only good for higher rpms generally, and the OHV doesn't rev high, it's more low end torque.

I guess in that respect, pulleys and/or electric fans would help a bit reducing parasitic drag on the engine (although I'm not a fan of most cheap e-fan kits, or underdrive pulleys myself).
I had a good response with a tuner on my SOHC 4.0L but I'm not sure how much it will help the OHV. Why not gears/locker or suspension stuff?

yeah i new rear end with a 4.10 is an option too, but i thought adding a little power would be nice. but hey thats why i posted this, if a lower gear would be the smartest thing to do then ill do that. i am getting 33s soon after i sell a van i got sitting in the driveway.

I had a 2000 2wd 4.0. When I canged from 3.55 to 4.10 I had better power outta all rpm ranges and maybe lost 1 or 2 MPG. I would suggest doing that.

I would suggest doing gears man.. even with your 4.0L if you're going to 33's, I would suggest going with 4.56's..

33's and 4.56's is not overdoing it. I'm on 4.10's and 33's right now and it really leaves somethng to be desired. Back when I had 31's, 4.10s were perfect but not anymore. If youre talking about needing more get up and go, 4.56s are what you'll want with the 33's, otherwise I think you'll be just as frustrated as you are now. Im going to do a 4.56 L/S rear when I get the money.

i cant have 4.56, my gas miliage sucks as it is and i costs way to much to have that done. i guess ill go get an axle with 4.10 l/s then and swap them out. then ill be set when i get 33s

4.56 gears with 33's is great with a SOHC, but the OHV (what he has) doesn't rev like the SOHC does.
The OHV will work great with 4.10's and 33s, as they work great with 3.73's and 31's.
But if I were you, I might consider 4.30 gears to help with the extra weight too. 4x4 trucks don't have that option for the front diff.

Thats what i want. But i think ill go with an axle with a 4.10 l/s. Maybe and explorer axle? Or fx4? Just depends whats cheapest at the junkyard.

I had 4.88's and 33's with the SOHC, and it was almost over doing it. It would not be comfortable with an OHV, trust me.
