It's also a bit dangerous around here. On my last run I was almost hit by 2 cars, twisted my ankle in a concealed side walk hole and chased by a dog. I try to just stick witht the park but people never pick up the dog crap.
I've had trouble with things like that when cycling, but never running !
I have to remember though that the population density in California is the same for the whole of Canada, so the accident rate goes through the roof.

Most people around here keep their dogs on a short leash and everyone knows everyone else, so getting chased by a dog is unheard off.
People are generally the same everywhere though, many don't pick up after their dog and don't really care about others _ it's very frustrating.

LA has over 10 million people and in my area of Los angeles there is over 110,000 that live here. I don't even know where all those people actually are. Unfortunately, most people that do have a dog around here don't even own a leash. There are about 3 dogs that always wonder at work and try to come in. We've called the city but they keep showing up. I've walked out of my condo and found dog crap up and down the flower beds. It was worse when I lived in Hollywood. It was always in the side walk. One of the reasons I started taking my shoes off as soon as I walk in my door.

That's terrible !
If I lived where you were I wouldn't put up with that, I have no patients with people who don't give a crap.
I don't know how busy you are or how big those dogs are, but if they're out running around on there own, I would buy a trap and take them to the pound.
Put your truck to work...
In my town we're allowed to do that, the people then have to pay a stiff fine and if they keep it up, the dog gets taken away.

With your dense population there must a huge amount of dogs.
I thought the leash laws were quite strict in California ???

We have a raccoon problem, they make quite the mess and keep me awake at night. I've trapped them and dropped them of 15 miles away and they find their way back anyway.
I guess I'll just have to drive further.

Didn't even know there was such a thing.
As for bear country, I'm in it, my street is at the edge of town right next to the bushes.
There're bears all over.

It really depends on what part of LA you're in. The area I'm in now is more strict then Hollywood was but not as much as Beverly Hills. Unfortunately there are a-holes everywhere.

I have caught a few of the dogs but that turned into a huge fight with the neighbors at work. Words were exchanged and the police were called. Put them in a bad light cause the police sided with us and fined them.

I grew up with dogs and cats so when I see them looking abandoned i do try and help them but after that day I just call the city. Less stress for me.
