Installed Magnaflow - Dual Extreme

Hey Guys,

I bought a Dual Rear Exit Cat-Back Exhaust System through Jusnes this week. He was a great guy to deal with and had excellent prices too!

It's late. So no vids as of yet. Or even decent pics of the finished product either. But I will post something nicer and more detailed than I could find out on the web. Between all the posts here, youtube, and the like. I just did'nt get too good of a feel for what it sounded like. One thing is for sure.. it's got the tone of the sound clip on the magnaflow web site. But the dual pipes make it much deeper and far less ricer sounding.

Here are my impressions of the installation:

1) It's a top quality system. Much like the bassani on my lightning.. good quality parts and manufacturing.
2) This has been the easiest system to install that I've ever done. But it's always agrivating to work on exhaust. On a skill level I'd say it's doable to most anybody with some time and basic hand tools. IMO there is no need to pay a shop to install this. It's not that hard. I had to drill one hole and jack the rear of the truck up to get the stock system out. Otherwise it was straight foward.
3) Disappointed in the tip angles. I'll need to grind down the ends of the tow bar to get them more straight rearward. Right now they are slightly angled outward at about 5-7 degrees. It's tough to tell though from a casual passer-by view point.
4) **I had to put a spacer in the front bolt of the evap canister** This was needed because the hard plastic tube coming off of it was within a 1/4" of the piping. So angling it "nose up" gives it about an inch.
5) The only tight spots are the drivers side shock. And both tips as they pass the towbar. This I don't like and will shave mine down to get them pointed more straight reaward.

Driving impression:

1) It's actually a pretty quiet system. I like loud usually.. but this will be my daily driver so it's good. (no drone at all) And I don't think my wife will complain (like she usually does when I do exhaust mods)
2) Idling in drive and you hardly notice it's there.
3) The sweet spot for the tone is right at 2700-2800 rpms.
4) The higher you rev it the louder it gets. (right up to 5500rpms)
5) Windows up at 55mph and you can *barely* tell it's there. Most people/passangers would never notice it IMO.
6) Seat of the pants and my SAE calibrated butt-dyno tells me it's got more low end punch (1500-3000 rpms). Not sure about the rest of the rpm range yet, but I think it's got a little something more.

All in all for $489 through Jusnes it was a good buy. Up here in michigan if your gonna drive in the salt... it's gotta be SS to last. IMO this is actually a pretty good price considering all aspects.

Here is looking down the single inlet of the magnaflow muffler

Here is looking in each down the outlets of the muffler

And here is the stock exhaust with 11k and one michigan winter on it.

It is awesome for sure.

A year ago, maybe 2, A company bought out Ford stock of Magnaflow exhaust, long story but basically a bunch of us bought your exhaust for 100$ + 50$ shipping. It was sick. That deal doesn't exist anymore, so you still got a good deal.

Why so much money? all it is, is a tube of steel.

Its stainless steel which means no rust, and here in michigan salt makes things rust easy, especially cheap exhaust....

Plus Magnaflow is a performance exhaust. Flowmaster is more of just sound.

The cost of SS is three times that of mild steel.

I'm sure they have a profit margin.. as does Jusnes. But.. where else are you going to by a dyno tested SS dual setup for less?

The salt up here definately eats up a cheap exhaust. Michigan DOT workers takes GREAT pride in putting down salt. IMO it's all they live for... that and closing every lane of traffic while they are not actually on the job site.

btw: Drove in this morning. It's pretty quiet normally. But one thing that's nice is when you put your foot down.. it gets loud. I'm sure my milage will be worse for the next week or so.

As the muffler breaks in it will get louder too.

Yes its just a tube of steel. Then again, your truck is just a bunch of sheet metal and plastic, why did you buy it? The magnaflow systems are mandrel bent stainless steel bolt on kits. Its a pretty good price for what you get.

Rich, I guess the problem you are having with the angle of the tips is what Magnaflow was talking about with the hitch. Glad everything went smoothly for you!! Now try doing a turbo back kit on a 4x4 superduty!

+1 on the exhaust- i have the same one on my truck an love it,bad news though, it will rust over the winter, good thing they have the lifetime warranty on it for rust(at least i think they do)
but i love this system, sounds great and evened out the gas milage-is now consistant and not wavey-it took a few weeks to see the better gas milage though, couldnt keep the foot off the floor
and yes, the exhaust is angled to go under a hitch, if you click the link labeled exhaust in my signature you will see it fits nicely under the hitch and lights
And one last note, the price is steep and is mostly profit, i work at summit racing equipment and i know what cost of system is(employee discount) and it does have a large profit margin, summit still carries cheapest ive found though $540 whereas everybody else carries it for $700 that i could find
enjoy the exhaust-its nice

Thanks Duane, That pic is one that I did see prior to buying this kit. IMO I want a tip that nice and tight to the body/bumper. Which mine are. When I get some time I'll just shave the ends of the hitch tube down and correct the tips a bit.

Profit.. you know over the years I've come to appreciate a company making a profit. It's what drives this economy and seperates one company / employee from another. (Performers and non performers) I used to be tight. And I mean TIGHT about my wallet. But now.. I choose to partisipate in this free market society. I make an awfully good wage these days... And it's not because of where I live.. it's because of Gods grace, my skill level, and work output. If my company did'nt make a profit.. there is no way I could make the income I do. Anyway.. I don't beat companies up on price anymore. Pitting one against the other.. I shop, look for American made products, and then either purchase or not. In this case Jusnes has it listed for $489 + free shipping. I'm happy that I was able to support both a small business and a larger one thats right here in America.

Regards, Rich

You make a good point
the more a company makes, the better the company is to the employees, if you can sell your product a little cheaper and sell more its even better
the way the exhaust tips are on mine were perfect for the fact that it went under both the lights and the hitch, like it the way it is and very happy, just hope the tips clean up some when i wash it, they are a little rusty

nice exhaust and all, and i dont mean to disrespect what you like... but isn't the purpose of dual exhaust is too be louder and able to hear it? I know performance is what you intended for but i dont know. its a nice system but for me i gotta hear it.

from what ive always known, tail pipes are for looks only and weather you have one, or two pipes it only affects the appearance, what makes the differance is the muffler itself
the muffler affects the amount of restriction and how loud/quiet it is, also the headers and cats. affect the sound as well, but the muffler is the biggest culpret

What? Single outlet exhaust is usually alaways going to be quietor than the same set-up with dual tail pipes.

Think about it...

You add an additional pipe to make dual exhaust, your also adding another tube for sound frequencies to travel through.

this is my understanding of the purpose of tips:

the tips act like a microphone. ever seen stadium speakers?? they're like cones and amplify the sound. well its the same principle with tips..the bigger the tips, the louder the sound, also the legth of the tips will also make it deeper (with longer tips), or higher (with short tips).

and, as you've also said, headers and cats, and the muffler will also change the sound of it as well.

ok correction taken, didnt know that the pipes past the muffler made a differance, only thought the cats, headers and muffler did, but it does make sense
