exhaust dilemma

right now i got a gibson dual swept side exhaust and it sounds good, but i want it to sound great.I am playing around with two ideas as of late to make her sound better. Keep my set up now, but switch to a new muffler like the flowmaster super 44{which i heard sounds great on 4.0L}or the flowtech terminator muffler which lately i have been hearing positive feedback on. The second idea is two get a shorter muffler like a cherry bomb extreme muffler and bring it to my exhaust guy and have him make me some pipes to exit before the rear wheel as opposed to behind the rear wheel like i have now. Any ideas and advice would be awesome, thanks guys

Yeah, Magnaflow seems to be best for performance, not sure how much it really gains, but its definitely something i imagine. I also heard people using a Flo-Pro exhaust which sounds good. Not sure if anyone here has one..

I liked the gibson but decided to go with the magnaflow because I just thought the Gib. was too quiet.

What I've wound up with is pretty much the same thing though. I have the SS magnaflow from the cat to about the front of the spare tire. Then I have two mild steel (much thicker walled tubing) tail pipes that exit right behind the rear tires.

It's significantly quieter than the rear exit from magnaflow. But yet it still has a deep tone to it. It's a V6.. but IMO it's does not have a V6 tone. It's deep an mellow like a V8.

It really depends on your tastes, what type of motor and valvetrain you have.
here's my set up:

That's a Flowmaster American Thunder 40 series muffler. I agree with D. the 4.0 OHC motor really is a bit too quiet to begin with. If it was the OHV motor that would be a different story. here's a link if you want something truly loud and really throaty: www.holley.com . Go to the Flowtech link and click the terminator muffler section. Go 6 inches behind the cab with it and it will set off factory installed car alarms. Not from the noise level, but from the ultra deep tone.

Thats not that deep...maybe it depends on what engine its on

Put a nice stainless tip on that exhaust man, it would look so much better!

I wouidn't gut the cats, no point. Stock cats aren't restrictive. Find out what D. and Rich are running, both of their exhausts sound awesome in vids.

Why would you put 2 mufflers on? Glasspacks sound terrible on any ranger.
