Mobil 1 0w-30 full syn with a Mobil 1 filter and when I'm out of the Mobil filters I'll go back to Motorcraft; it's actually a better filter when you see them cut apart.

I don't know what brand I am currently running, but I know I am running a full synthetic form for midrange mileage on my truck currently, along with one of those K&N performance oil filters and I feel like it runs smoother

Mobile1, 5-20, with MotorCraft Filter.
60K on truck, running Mobile1 since 25K when I purchased it.

I buy the 6 pack of Mobile1 (with rebate about $30) with two filters (about $6), change the oil and filter, 3 to 4K later change the filter and fill up the oil with the 6th quart.
Truck seems to spin over easier in the cold weather and starts easy, even with a battery that is on its last legs.

I've been using Castrol GTX since this truck was new, and used it in my last Ranger too without any issues. IMO oil is oil, and the most important thing is that you change it regularly.

Synthetic is a waste unless your engine was designed for it or you live somewhere that gets ridiculous cold.

I've been a Mobil-1 person for a while.

I really don't have a reason why. I just like Mobil-1.

Change your oil like a sensible person, and press the skinny pedal harder. It keeps the carbon buildup out of your engine.

Lol.

It's had nothing but the cheapest filters and oil for 380,000km. I used to care what oil I put in my vehicles but now it's just a matter of doing it on time!

Oil is just like a lot of products. The cheap-o house brand is usually exactly the same as the other stuff, just with a lower price because there is no advertising budget. They are often made on the exact same assembly line. Even Walmart Supertech is fine.

I was under the impression that Ford uses 5-20 in their vehicle and suggests it.
I had a shop do a change ONCEm they used a 10-30 in a 5.0 Ranger, it started tapping, went back to the guy that was suppose to use 5-20 Valvoline and found he was taking the oil out of a barrel in the back with no marking on it at all except 10-30 Automotive oil… wtf !

If you can prove this I would start buying the cheapest Syn Oil I could find…

The main thing that has been said and is the best advice is to change your oil and filter at regular intervals and not 6 months intervals but every three months.

Oil has to meet SAE specs, which are pretty demanding, and it guarantees that even the cheap stuff is good. Walmart Supertech for example, is made by Pennsoil, Mobil, and i think one other. It is identical to their base level oil, and you can tell which company made a particular batch by matching the shape of the bottle to that brand (for gallon/5 quart at least). Often a name brand on sale will be cheaper so it pays to look.

3 months is excessive. Spring and fall are best. That will replace additives that have degraded in the Summer heat, and oil that has permanently thickened in the Winter cold.

I can't recall the Wix filter number - but it's the Wix equivalent to the MotorCraft FLS-820 filter.
