4.0 ranger vs 4.0 tacoma

The toyota would win, I guess from what Ive read anyway. I also read that
the Ranger is faster than the Chevy Colorado and the Dodge Dakota with
a V-8. The Frontier might be a bit faster than the Ranger. Im so suprised
at how quick the 4.0 Ranger is though. I didnt know they had that kind of
power until I bought mine.

The new Frontier's are fast and definately faster than the ranger. They have the 350 Z engine in them. I test drove one of them when they first came out and couldn't believe how much power it had. A buddy of mine who owns a ss silverado raced one of the new frontiers and said that it kept up pretty good.

frontiers are crap..my boss's kid owns one and its the supercharged version( like a 00 or something)...doesnt stand a chance he hates it its slow as **** makes like 3 or 4 lbs of boost haha and yes our truck are faster then the dakota V-8s all except the 5.9 RT's there hella fast...colo's cant keep up with that lil inline 5 cylinder and tacos really aint that fast...no lies my mom came out to visit me this summer and one pulled up beside us shes like race him!! im like mom your promoting racing..the guy had exaust etc..and i was a bumper ahead of him..he gave me the thumbs up and said i had a nice truck...keep in mind the tacos are a lil bigger and heavier..ours trucks are pretty fast! for being 4x4..im sure if i took off the mudders it might be faster lol i hit 100mph and my govener kicks in..so i cant wait to fix that..

My previous truck was a 2000 nissan frontier. It was very slow, almost as slow as the 3.0 ranger I have now although it was stick. I'm talking about the new ones though and they are putting out 265 hp which is a total improvement from the one I had. Not to be dissing on the rangers, but you wouldn't be able to keep up with the new frontiers even though they are a lot heavier.

My friend has a 2006 Tacoma 2wd Prerunner with the TRD Off Road package in an extended cab.We went to the track a couple of weeks ago and it ran 15.4 @89mph.His has the electronic locking rear diff so on the street it is open and he had a hard time hooking up.If it had a limited slip or maybe he had more practice I think 15.1-15.2 is possible. And,yes,it is bone stock with 3,000 miles on it.He was tempted to lock the rear diff and run it but it says not to use it over 15mph and you have to be at a stop to lock and unlock it.They are real nice trucks.I am tempted to buy one but mine just keeps on running fine at 179,000 miles so I don't see the need to spend $28,000.

Ive raced a Newer Taco and beat it, however my truck isnt stock and I dunno how much faster a stick is over an auto (we both had autos)... My guess would be him having a bigger truck would be the reason I won. Ive never raced a frontier but wouldnt mind the chance. The Ranger isnt even in the same class anymore as the taco or nissan. The new 242 hp/tq chevy might be a beast too. I hope ford really ups the ranger or puts the 300hp 4.6 from the Sport trec in the ranger!

I'd say the Ranger would win the race.
Weight is the key here as is the power band.
No one cares if you're putting out 300 ft-lb of torque if the torque curve is as steep as a mountain...it's all about who can put out more torque to weight, and maintain traction, for a longer period of time. I've never looked into it, I'm guessing, as is everyone else who has responded so far.
Anyway, there is big difference in something that feels fast and something that is fast. What is funner to drive...an 89 mustange with a 5.0 or a 2006 mustang with a 4.6 and DOHC? The 5.0 feels way faster to me because it's a different kind of power. It's just raw down-low power that feels good, but the newer 4.6 maintains that power for a longer period of time and would, in all likelihood, smoke the crap out of the older 5.0.

The ex was driving the 06 with the 4.0 taco and I loved driving her truck. My ranger wouldnt keep up, granted im running 4.0, with exhaust and intake but also pulling 33's. In fact, I almost bought one. But im saving up for the Silverado SS. Then the danger will go under complete make over and enter the 1450 class.

I must say the 4.0 SOHC w/ the 5spd manual and 4.10 gears feels awesome! I ran 4cyl. manual Rangers for years, so this one feels like a extreme truck to me! I recently drove a 2007 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel and was not all that impressed with empty truck acceleration. Even the 6.0 GMC specs aren't that impressive when you consider the weight of the 3/4 ton trucks they come in....Now maybe the SRT V-10 Viper motor in the Dodge 1500 may have potential.....And now I feel the urge to drive a Tacoma in a v-6..
No, the 2004 Ranger is paid for, and I'm settling in for the long haul...No payments!!!

tacos are nice,, sure their fast, sure they have more TQ and HP, ya,m their a bit nicer..... but their also ALOT more expensive. howmany people her paid in the TEENS for their lvl2's? ALOT of people (too bad im not one of em ;( ) we looked at the taco before i got mine. the dealer wouldnt let me test drive one tho.... said unless im planning to buy, theres no reason to test drive one - that turned me off BIG time. tho the interiors are preety spiffy. but, dont forget i was looking at trucks comparable to mine, i had the truck i have now picked out already, and was looking around for others that were similar. the colorados - i could ride down the side of a mountain on my bicycle and win vs the colorado being pushed off a cliff at the top.... not to mention their not to 'trucky' in my opinion. i stayed away from mazda, i owned a mazda - nice car too expensive to fix. another reason why i stuck with ford. same model, same everything for 20yrs = cheap parts. overall i liked the design, speed, sportiness, of the ranger over any other, not to mention, we have always had ford trucks, and they have always lasted a long time so im biased.

Guess im the only one that actually raced one? I mean I didnt beat him by like 6 car lengths but it was a gap. With a taco putting out only 236hp and 266tq and being a much heavier truck I just dont see how they could win even stock. A ranger weighs about 4000lbs (2wd) with a Taco being what 5-55000? To be honest I think the thing that sucks about tacos is they only have Electronic Limited slip (perhaps im wrong?) which you have to engage. The truck I raced had alot of slippage, it was obvious he either didnt it have it engaged or had an open rear end.
With headers, Muffler, intake I think Im the same amount of power as a Taco if not more so again, stock for stock I dunno.

I raced one twice when I was going to FW. Story time....
First one I was sitting at a light. looked over noticed some kids goofing around in it. Figured I would punch it at the light. I punched it squeeled the tires and let off. I herd them punch it so I then punched it. Side by side till 60 then he started to pull slightly. Let off around 70.
2nd time we left the light at the same time. side by side till 60 again and he pulled about to or 3 lengths on me till 80. Close but the Taco won.
My ranger is all stock except it has 33s.
