Should I be worried?

So my buddy with an 01 Expo 2 door had his timing chain guides break.

I know this was a problem till 02(?).

My question is should I be worried about this happening to me? Is there any preventative maintenance?

By the way, my friend spent almost $1000 to the shop to fix it

Maybe I'm just paranoid. I can't have my truck immobile for a long period of time

i wouldnt even worry then. mines rattled since i got it when it had 10,000 miles on it and it now has 90,000 hard, abusive, full throttle miles and it still runs like a top, as a matter of fact the rattle has gotten quieter. i say if it isnt broken, dont fix it.

with that many miles and no rattle yet i would doubt it it would start to rattle any time soon. from my understanding is that if they are going to rattle they will do so almost from the get go.

My 01 has rattled since day one. About 20,000 miles ago I switched to Mobil 1 0w-30 (green cap), and the rattle has been almost non-existent since then.
