4.0 ohv fan clutch removal help
trying to install an efan/ underdive pulley.. but can't seem to remove the fan clutch.. rented 2 tools from advance- neither worked well... bought a tool from napa this morning but still can't seem to budge...friend telling me these things are rarely much more than hand tight, am wondering what i am doing wrong? can't see why so difficult - when people need to change water pump, etc..

The clutch nut gets WAY tighter than hand tight as the miles accumulate because the water pump rotation is constantly tightening it against the fan resistance.
Remove the fan clutch with the serpentine belt in place to give the pulley some extra resistance. Often the shock of a hammer blow on the wrench will be enough to break the nut free. Also, be sure of the removal rotation, CW or CCW. I think your 4.0L is regular right hand thread but check a shop manual or the radiator shroud to be sure - the correct removal direction is often embossed right in the shroud plastic.
