oil pressure gauge and unit

Concerning the stock oil pressure sending unit on an 06 ranger 4.0...

im familiar with where it is, but what i dont know is if i can tap into the factory wire and run an aftermarket gauge with it accurately or do i need to use the aftermarket gauge's sending unit?

if i have to run the aftermarket unit can i tap the factory wire into it then?

or is there a better solution to tapping into oil pressure readings?

thanks for any help

For more than 20 years, the factory Ranger oil pressure sender has been a simple on/off switch. An aftermarket gauge needs a matched sending unit with the correct resistance curve.

Not sure on the Rangers as I've never really looked... but I would imagine you could just put in a tee at the original sender location and run two senders out of the same location.

update:

got a brass T fitting, threaded it into block, put original sending unit into one end and then a line into the other, ran line up to about the ABS unit where i connected the gauge sending unit, grounded it to the chassis and it works great, no leaks, and im not worried about the giant gauge unit vibrating off the engine in rough conditions

been a week and its working wonderfully
