Check Engine throwing code P0401

So I recently had my 02 Ranger in to AAMCO to get the trans fluid flushed, filled and a new filter and gasket, it's got just over 100k on it and it was last done around 67k.

Anyway I also asked them to hook it up to a computer and let me know why my Check Engine light was on and if it were a sub $150 repair to just go ahead and do it. I got a note back that it was the following:

P0401 = EGR insufficient flow detected

and that they would need a day to determine the causes and it would incur diagnostic feels at $100\hr. and so on. So I told them thanks for letting me know what it is and I'll see if I can fix it myself, if not "i'll let you know" (yea right).

I see that this code is plastered all over this forum, but I wanted advice as to where i shuold start. I already replaced the little elbow right to the left of the trottle that was worn out with a crack in it.

UPDATE: so the P0401 code still exists, I got an Android phone and am using a bluetooth OBDII chip with the Torque app so I can scan for the codes it's throwing and it's only this one. I had a local shop replace my EGR valve as thats where many of the posts on this form pointed, I pulled the battery to clear the computer, but after about 70 miles the light came back on with the same code.

What should I look at next?

how perfect of a timing... I just checked/broke my existing one so I ended up going out to AZ to get a new one for $30, I cleared the check engine light and we'll see if it stays off this next 100 miles or so.

Thanks!

DPFE is what I think it was... the light has been off for a week now, so we'll see how it goes. Thank you all for the advice.. also I thought I'd mention I used the Torque app for Android to diagnose ane clear the code, pretty cool for the free version.

Thanks for the update.
Many people forget to do that so we never find out if a fix worked or not.

I had the p0401 code. I cleaned the egr and MAF but its still throwing the code. The hose attached to it doesnt seem to have much suction. could that be causing the problem? Also I know its a stupid question but what is the DPFE? Any suggestions are appreciated.
