Iac

just double checking with you guys, but sometimes when i put my truck in park it stalls....most of the time it drops down to like 500 rpms and goes back up but its been stalling lately....or going from D to R it drops down / shuts off....after searching everyone said IAC....

Well i called ford and they needed the last 8 of the vin because they are "all different" which i didnt think they were, but 67$ for a new one, but i have to order it....

He said he can sell me one for the 4.0 but if its not the right one im stuck with it....

So i was just double checking that

1) You think its the IAC
2) how do i know its the right one for my truck, arnt they all the same for the 4.0?

I would see if i could get a new one at autozone, Oreiley ect.. They would probably be cheaper there. Also, do you have problems at low rpms in all gears or just in park? When my iac went bad it felt like it was going to stall at low rpms all the time.

at idle it feels like its missing sometimes, but it has new plugs / wires..... When my ac / heater owuld be on it would drop down everytime the compressor would kick on...had to reset the computer....

When going from R to D or D to R it would drop down...today it kept shutting off when putting it in park...

It does sound like it may be the iac. I would take it off and see if there is a bunch of crud in there. If so you can clean it like zabeard said. When i was having trouble with mine i just got a new one because my truck lots of miles on it.

Here's my take:

1. Try cleaning the IAC valve. Particularly if you use an oil-wetted filter. It becomes gum down the line sometimes.

2. If cleaning doesn't work, then disconnect your MAF with the truck turned off. Start the truck and let it idle and see what happens. If it idles well, clean your MAF and if that doesn't help, replace it.

3. If that doesn't work, then disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. Reconnect it and let the truck "learn" to idle smoothly again.

If none of these things correct it you can look for a vaccum leak and the IAC is a potential culprit. Other things are possible, but not as likely.

Had the same prob. I cleaned it out but that was a bandaid that worked about 2 weeks. It was shot. IIRC it was only like $60 at Autozone and 5 minutes of work that even my clumsy *** did.

Well i dont feel like cleaning it because if its bad its going to do the same thing later, i would rather just buy a new part....

I dont have an oiled filter.....

And i tried the "relearn" process.......which took out the idle droppage when the ac/heat was on.....but still, when you put it in park or go from R to D or D to R it drops down / shuts off

TTT.........I did the MAF test and it wouldnt run without it.....so thats out....unplug the IAC and it wont start...unplug the TPS and it will run fine until you hit the gas..... I talked to a guy i know who works on cars and he said its something in my transmission (some lock thingy) cant remember what he called it.....which i dont think it has ANYTHING to do with the tranny......if i go from D to R the idles drop down and raise back up.....today i went from D to R to back up in the grass to unload a pile of wood and it stalled in the middle of the F'in road! Put it in park and it dies.......its seriously p!ssin me off....

No one has the IAC, i have to order it....And theres no point in replacing it, if it isnt broke.....So what are some other tests that i can do?

I really dont think it has anything to do with the tranny....

My freakin remote start isnt working right...so i need to take that in to get fixed again, my 4 wheeler still shuts off after 15 min of hard riding so that is pissing me off....I just got off work at 8:30 am, i need to go to bed before i kill someone....
