whats the most horsepower you can get out of a 4.0 sohc with all engine mods and performance without going to the 5.0 swap or a supercharger

I can't give you any figures....but you should check out Super6performance. They specialize in v6 mustang stuff, which our truck can take most of the parts designed for the stang.

Heads, cams, internals, headers, etc. You are looking at thousands and thousands here to get like 300 at the crank. Should boost it or swap in the 5.0 or something else because well...money wise...it's alot better than spending 6k on engine parts to be all motor.

I may be spitting filth, but I dont care..just stating what I think. But do check out Super Six.

Yep, I'm in full agreeance with Shane myself!

Unless you have the parts at home and can do all the handiwork yourself - Its just not worth it to dump tons of money into our engines.. intakes, headers, tuner and such is just fine - but doing internals and supercharging only gets you so far before you realize that for $2000 cheaper you could have jsut swapped in a 5.0 and be further along with better gas mileage

Our blocks and heads are not very thick walled. At some point your going to have to add stiffeners and girdles. IMO its not worth it to push more than about 350 at the crank on one of these 4.0Ls. Above that and your just not getting any value. Go V8 above that.

btw, I'm pushing about 300-310 at the crank with nothing but plugs and tune. (nitrous) No issues at all.. driven year round in Michigan weather.

i will be doing headwork on my truck towards the end of the year, along with redoing the exhaust from the headers back. whenever that time comes i will do a dyno run before and after, then get a tuner and get specific tunes for the truck and make another run.

A V8 isn't always the answer but you need quite a bit of money to get power out of a SOHC 4.0.
