The stock cats are high flowing. Switching to Magnaflow or other high flow cats will do nothing.

Everyone always says stock cats are high flow, but has anyone ever installed Magnaflow cats besides Zach Beard?

Stock there are 4 catalytic convertors. One on each downpipe. One at the y pipe and one just before spring flange. If your state doesn't have emissions testing I would just go with two. One on each downpipe. Pre 01 trucks only had two.

Other than that, the 3" inlet and 2.5" outlets are overkill even if it's a 4.0. 2.5" in and 2" outlets are about right.

In the end though its a stock V6 with crappy flowing heads. How much of a power increase do you expect from changing cats out?

High flow cats wont really change the sound. No cats will sound louder but then you lose power. Also Magnaflow mufflers are known to be on the quieter side.

Well if he just wants to have the muffler welded in then go with the size of the stock piping.

Yeah but Zach is also supercharged. That makes a massive difference. With a S/C you want more free flowing exhaust b/c you want to optimize the performance of a S/C. A supercharger forces air into the engine, having a stock exhaust will restrict that flow.

Beard had that exhaust long before the S/C.

EDIT: April this year https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=63071

My own. Its not a loud as other exhausts.

You guys do whatever you want. Waste your money on high flow cats. Some of you keep forgetting that you own a truck with poor flowing heads compared to a performance engine. A high flow cat will do nothing. But what do I know. I have only worked on cars most my life and I have owned a few where a high flow cat was needed. I would only buy the Magnaflow cats if my stock cats died. Why? They make the whole Y pipe with he cats in them.

ahh I am mistaken. I thought he designed his exhaust system with an eventual S/C in mind

The way I see it, if this guy has the money to spend on new catalytic convertors and a full exhaust I don't think it matters what we say. Most of their convertors go for $250 minimum. My entire cat-back cost less than that.

OK, before i got the rx7 i was planning on doing the same thing, swapin out the 4 stock cats, for 2 magnaflow highflow cats. However i did/do plan to add other mods, but i just wanted my complete exhaust to be 2.5"..... I still dont think it would be a waste of money, its like $75 ea magnaflow cat, so around $200-250 total...It will add some power just not a lot like 5hp haha..Theres dumber things ppl send there money on for performance.
