96 4.0 OHV Temp Question

What does everyones stock temp gauge go up to once at operating temp? On a cold windy day, mine wouldn't really move, but was blowing pretty warm air (not really hot though). I just bought this truck not that long ago and haven't logged enough miles to know what's normal. Just trying to figure out if the t-stat is stuck or something...

I had a 95 Mustang GT with a similar "problem". Turned out to be a $3 temp sensor. I replaced it and the "temp guage" came right back to normal.

Mine's a 97 4.0 and it goes up to just under halfway, in the cold it takes a little longer.

I had the same problem when I first got mine with the temp gauge not moving. Turns out the thermostat was stuck open. Seems to be a farely common occurence with Ranger's. $11 and a little time and you should be good to go.

My 94 with OHV 4.0 , gauge never gets above the bottom of the normal mark at the bottom of the gauge , but blows plenty of hot air .

replace your thermostat....mine has had the same problem twice and both times it was the thermostat........

your truck should run at a normal temp of aroun 198*.......

I figured as much. I was going to replace it in the summer while I was doing the rest of the tune-up stuff, but of course I didn't get around to it. Once I get the rear diff. fluid replaced and the rear shaft done I guess I'll tackle the t-stat.
