PCV hose question....

So I got the po171 and PO174 codes, looked for the leak, and found the pcv hose to be cracked where it meets the front of the engine, pass side. I glued it for now, but was wondering if it is normal for that elbow to be crushed while the engine is running. I assume it's got a good vacuum, hence the crushing, but is that normal?
If that's the case, then a pice of hose should work fine, right? I used 5/8" ID tube for it, and it also crushed while running. Just wondering if that 90 degree bend should hold up to the vacuum or not.

There's a pic of the bend I'm talking about on this post....

Oh yeah, PCV still rattles but probably going to replace it anyway seeing how it has 116k on it....

Both. I got two codes. PO171 is bank 1, po174 is bank 2.

There is only one PCV hose. It will do no good to look on both sides of the engine.

That elbow should not crush under vacuum. Mine does not crush even with the silicone jacket repair. So far my repair is holding up very well and I see no reason why it should not continue to until the original hose completely disintegrates. I still plan to get a replacement, but I am trying to find a hose that will stand up to that environment better than the Ford hose.

Part number is 4L5Z*6758*HA Hose/Vent $35

It's two elbows, plastic tube and two clamps.

Thanks for that info, I ordered both the hose and valve. I beleive the valve is bad, as the new one lets air flow into the throttle body. I think it's stuck in the closed position, though it did "seem" to rattle.
That or the hose is just shot,a nd the elbow is crushing under vacuum. Should know soon in any case.

i see that all the time, mainly on the f-250 5.4s and the expeditions. i guess over time the hose just cant take it any more and gets weak. makes one hell of a vacuum leak tho

It was the elbow on the hose. Was WAY softer than the new Ford assembly, was crushing under pressure, even after I fixed the split. PCV was still good, but for five bucks and 116k on it, that got replaced also. Thanks for all the help from everyone that contributed.
