It's called an "air horn" because it does the opposite of a normal horn. It muffles noise.
It also helps to create laminar air flow. (but is not very effective at it)
And it very effectively seals out engine room heat.

Generally on a stock motor you will gain a few hp on the top end, better hear the induction noises, and cause drastic swings in intake air temps (at low speeds / stopping)

So wydopnthrtl, do you recommend keeping the air silencer in or out?

If your all stock on the engine, exhaust, and don't rev it high to begin with?.. keep it stock. If your like me.. and go "wyd opn thrtl" and get thrills from hearing the induction howl? Then skip it all together and go straight to a conical setup.

Just buy a intake kit. MAC kits are cheap as hell. I wish i would never made the mistake of buying that damn K&N drop in filter.

i did the air box silencer removal mod... with the 4.0 and the magnaflow exhaust, it produces a "deep, rich, throaty, sound."
