sigh....well ive been at it since 6:00 pm and its now 12:30 exactly. i cant get the oil filter off. damn fram pieces of crap. i tried doing a search and found this...

but ive covered all of this. twice over. so after trying to use a screwdriver and practically ripping the bottom of the filter off, i figured, what the hell and ripped the insides of the filter out. now ive only got about one half of the filter left. here's where im at...

she's a beauty eh? lol wtf...i have no idea how i got to this point. so it still wont budge...and you're pretty limited on room. so does anyone know if that center stud can be removed? It looks like its an allen head and can be taken out. that was my next thing to try. well tomorrow anyways. im never doing this again, from now on, its K&N filters for me with the nut on the end. this stinks, im not sure what else to try at this point.

 

i dont mean to insult your intelligence .... but did you try a filter wrench with a strap?

as long as i towel off any oil or water on there then go for it with this ive never had trouble

Holy s^^^. I can get mine off without a wrench usually. Try a pair of channel-lock pliers?

Yea...get some proper tools. I am sure you can pick up a filter wrench for cheap at walmart or something. It won't help you now though.

I have no idea on how to get that off now. You ripped off what you had going for you and that was the body of the filter that you could wrench on. So I dunno, take it somewhere(on a flatbed haha) and get it fixed.

K&N filters are some of the worst on the market. They fail all the time and have some of the worst flow numbers. Stick with Motorcraft or NAPA Gold.

 

Do you have a dremel? You could always carefully cut it off.

Get a big hex wrench and unscrew the adapter the from the block.

 

LOL, dude, my goodness.

You might be able to get a filter wrench around teh base (where its next to the engine). I know they're metal around there so you should be able to get it screwed off....

 

Thats what i was planning on doing. If I can back out the center piece, I'll be in business.
As far as the filter wrenches, channel locks etc. etc. etc.....tried them. you really dont have a lot of room to work with in there...at all... and it was just put on too tight. so after wrenching on the poor thing for that long, it pretty much fell apart. caved in, whatever. so i took a dremel to it to try and cut it off. this is where im at.

other then trying to pack out the center, im not sure what else to try. ill hit autozone in the morning and see if i can find a hex socket that will fit in there.

yea, i read that ace lol i was at that point around hour 3....then i put a screwdriver through it and the bottom came off like i was opening a can. ill have the last laugh though....ill get the dadgum thing off.

 

yea i have learned to make sure i can just barely move the filter before i pull the plug on the oil pan lol

how about this, not sure how thick that plate is but... take two sheet metal screws. screw both into opposite small holes around that center hole. then wedge a screw driver between those two screws and turn... not sure if youll have the room either but worth a shot if nothing else...

Yeah. Fram Oil Filters are crap, as well as K&N. They will almost always get stuck on there. We use the Napa Filters at my work and if Napa doesnt carry one for the vehicle, We go straight to the dealer for it.
Here is my weapon of choic that has never failed me yet. Some are hard as crap to get off but this tool has always been good for me. I recomend this tool for any DIY guy.
