I use Quaker State or Fram filters and NEVER have I had one looking like THAT!!

Guess you put it on too tight the last time. Having the right tools will save you from having that nightmare. I can't believe you did that.

why would the brand have anything to do with it getting stuck?

Ive never had this problem and I always use Fram filters.

 

I think if you put oil on the o-ring it will usually be fine. I think it's time for an update.

lol today the thing comes off. ive got a plan. not sure it'll work, but we'll see right? this is a good way to start a vacation from work.

so, ill keep you guys updated to see how bad you can actually mangle a filter and still be able to remove it. let this be a lesson....learn from my mistakes lol.

Usually at work when this happens we have to replace the whole oil header.

 

Glad you got it. Put a little oil on the seal, that may help next time.

 

i've always had good luck with WIX oil filters.......just my .02 cents

There are these magical mythical things called TOOL'S. and roomer has it that if you use the right one you can fix anything. You should do a Google for tools and see what happens.

Im not sure why it has anything to do with the brand. I am just stating what my experiences have been. I accually changed 2 cars oil today that had Fram filters on there and one was stuck on there I had to break out the big guns to get it off, but the other was just real tight. I guess it may have something to do with how you put it on. Im sure there are some shops out there that use tools to tighten the filters on there but be sure that we dont (Kauffman Tire). We lube up all filters and install them hand tight with a little grunt.

 

The instructions on the side of the filter state how tight they have to be, what is it, 1/2 or 3/4 turn after gasket makes initial contact.

 

I use Fram on everything and have never had a problem with them. I have always gotten them off usually with just my hand.

Hand tighten is the key here.

 

10-4 on that one. I always hand tighten and then use the wrench to snug it about a 1/16? of a turn. Just slightly.

 

thats not hand tight then. hand tight is screw it on with your hand and no tools. i get it as tight as i can with my hand and leave it. remember metal expands when hot.

 

I only go hand tight and use the Fram Filters with grip on them, helps alot when its time to change.

When I first bought my truck It had a Mastercraft smooth filter and that was a Pain to get off.

 

The grip is nice but Fram filters are known to fail. Their internals will sometimes collapse and restrict oil flow. I use a filter with a smooth case and never have any problems taking it off by hand.

 

Are you supposed to use special filters with synthetic oil?
