4.0 No Muffler?

I was just curious how the 4.0 sounded with no muffler? Like cut it off right before the muffler. I like a loud truck but I dunno if it sounds like chit...

I did search and all those guys don't have a 4.0 and if they do then they were talking about what muffler they put on there.

I had my muffler unbolted and it sounded great. The only thing is that where it unbolts is right under the cab so its loud as hell inside. I couldn't hear my music or talk on the phone while on the freeway because of it. I bolted it back on because I'd rather have my truck sound like your blowing through a straw than to not be able to hear my music.

camodown said his truck was really loud, he has the SOHC, if you put a turn down pipe on it, its really not that bad, a 3.0 with a flow master sounds about the same..

my MTZs at 70-75.. cruising on the highway with the windows shut, are louder then my exhaust. so its not really that bad..

idk why, but the exhaust and tires are louder with them up, guess its the absence of the wind? haha

i just was trying new things and cut my exhaust canister off like one inch before... on the piping from the cats... and i love the way it sounds...i might play around with putting a tip on there... but i will try and get a video link A.S.A.P. but ... if you want to be safe jsut take it to an exhaust shop say hey can you cut this here and if you dont like it ask them to weld it back on... but trust me you wont need them to...

If you just unbolt it it is obnoxiously loud and if you go over 3K rpm then you sound like a ricer like no other. Maybe if you put more pipe so it is not under the cab or a turn down it might help.

Whenever I think I want a loud exhaust I just unbolt it and drive around. It is fun for about 5 minutes then I'm over it.

yeah but heres the thing you guys cant cut the last cat ... tht is how come it sounds like crap.... where the muffler sits go inch towards the cab on the pipe that connects the cats to the muffler... and cut it there... that means that you should have about 24 inchs.. two feet give or take a couple inches ...( this is from memory..) of exhaust pipe left.. then it will sound better... not like flowmaster 40s but it will be at a level that you can hear.. and if all else fails just put on a cherry bomb...
