got my first 285 miles to a full tank on my 07 fx4 off road ranger. still pretty new with only 1700 miles but i was getting only 13 or 14 mpg in the winter. most of this was highway and some city. these 4.0 sohc motors like highways better thats for sure. i was only getting 240 miles to a tank in the city driving. hope by 5000 miles she will get better mileage. i was trying to go to 300 miles but chickened out. gas light was on and i was pushing it. mileage this time was just about 17mpg. not bad.

 

I got 350 miles on a tank one day. Turned out to be 19.5 MPG. Since then I have not been able to do that again.

i only broke 300 miles once... and i barely made it.. was on the warning light for the last 40 miles of the interstate... it was an interstate trip the whole way with cruise control on like 68 or something

 

Only time ive gotton close to 300 was when i forgot to put reset.....

I dont get crap for gas mileage.....maybe 13 on a good day.....

with 285's 240 is about the norm

 

My record is a little over 380 miles/tank. Of course I pumped over 18 gal refilling it.. and for the first time in my life dropped more than $50 on a single fillup as well!

Ironically that fill-up was not my record for best per-tank MPG number. I had a 5-6 tank streak last August where I was seeing 20-22 MPG on each tank.

All of that is w/ a mostly bone stock '03 LII on factory 31x10.5 rubber.

Short shifting and never exceeding 70 MPH does wonders.

 

yesterday i put in 30 dllrs, and gauge went little passed half tank,, i am in calif and at 3.34 a gallon lol.


all of this , " how many miles per tank really does depend on were you live , how fast you drive and how well is your truck tuned up,.

oh and yes i do drive grandma status and do a lot of neutral driving too,lol

 

Just a note about tire pressure. I drove for a good month with them at 23-25psi (delivered to me that way from the dealership)

Once I bumped them up to 32 the ride got smoother.. and the milage better.

They are now at 35psi and I'm avgeraging 19 flat.

i have been getting about 21-23 mpg in mine. only this i have done is the tuner so far. And thats been going on for about 2 months

suckaz! 07 4.0 xlt ive put headers on it only and driving 60-65 now, tire pressure at 40psi... max is 44.. and i got 25mpg this tank and this morning i had 2) 4'x8'x16" dock floats( about ehh 250each) and had O/D off driving up and down hills...


and just fyi.. driving 75 will only get you to the traffic jam quicker than driving 65 haha. and if theres no traffic.. you save what.. ehh 8minutes off your trip... id rather get over 400miles per tank

Just filled up this morning and got my best so far. 19.4

I cannot coorilate it to mpg yet.. but I've measured a 6ft lbs avg difference between 65mph and 70mph. That is.. it take approx 6ft lbs more force to keep my 06FX4 (4.10s) at 70mph than it does at 65mph. To *some measure* that will account for more fuel consumed.
At the same time I was looking at fuel trims.. but the differences are too little to see w/o a closer study.

i just drove 1400 miles (all highway) and was getting about 280 miles per tank the first day(lots o weight) and over 300 the second day(not nearly as much in the bed)

Just broke new ground! This tank I ran shell 87 vs the shell 93 I've been running for a good 8-10 tank fulls now.

I guess it's the warmer weather more than anything? Only had the A/C on a little.. and got 20.65mpg this time.(19.4 last) FINALLY I'm in the 20s. Boy I hope it stays there because I fill up just about two times a week. If I could get this thing up to 22mpg I could reduce that to only once a week consistantly.

It definately felt odd going 365miles before seeing the low fuel light come on.

I did some searching for summer switch over. Can't really find any hard timing posted.. but "spring" and "fall" are the times.

It would seem that butane is the largest thing adjusted (2% to 10%) so as to make the fuel have less vapor during the summertime.

Just interesting stuff IMO.

Guess I'm off to a good start - last two tanks, both 20MPG average and I haven't broken 850 miles yet. NOT flat, highway driving either. The first of the two I kept track on was about 1/3 in town, 2/3 really rolling, back-country two-laner state highway road with a bit of freeway. The second tank was 50% freeway at 65-70 mph and 50% the same, rolling, back country road. That rolling road BTW, many, long up hills where I had to drop into 4th to maintain speed; of course with the ups come the downs, lots of long coasting down hills too. Somehow, she did good for me sitting right at 19.8-20.5 MPG - I think this one has a taller 5th gear than my '02 did.

Makes me happy with already $3.xx/gal gas around here - can't wait to move away from mid-state NY.......

 

Summer vs. Winter gas definitely applies to me. I get my best mileage in the summer hands down. Even if I do my best to negate any differences in driving practices (ie skip the warm-up in the winter).

Keeping the RPMs down has made the biggest impact on my mileage over everything I've tried. Although I also keep my tires aired up to ~36 PSI.
