10 miles per gallon???

I am the original owner of a 2000 Ranger with a 4.0L engine and automatic tranny. It currently has 43,000 miles on it. I drove the truck off and on for the first 5 years, and always averaged 18-19 mpg with it. In February 2006, the fuel pump went out. I replaced it with a new one, and immediatley my mpg dropped down to 10-11. I was concerned, but attributed it to the new pump needing time to "wear in". A few months later the mileage started to return to normal, confirming my thoughts that the new pump needed some break-in time. I drove it all spring, and summer and the mileage was back up to 18-19. Now, as the weather is getting colder my mileage is starting to get bad again. Last tank averaged 13mpg, and its not even really cold yet.

Obviously, my poor mileage is attributed to the weather, and probably had nothing to do with the pump afterall. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

I realize that gas mileage will be less during the fall, and winter, but not this bad. Plus it never averaged less than 17mpg during the first 5 years I had it. There must be something else wrong with it. What do you think?

they also put aditive into the gas for winter at the pumps so that could also affect it and when its colder air the air is more dence and harder for the engine to suck in. mine also gets bad gas mialage even in summer tho i get 14-16,pg in summer and 6-13 lol in winter it varies a lot on how the tems are and if i punch the gas much in the snow :)
