Acetone to Increase Mileage/Performance
I'm going to give this one a try.
I'll report back in a week or so.
"In addition to increased mileage acetone added to fuel boasts other benefits such as increased power, engine life, and performance."

You might want to think twice about that. Acetone is a known solvent for the o-rings, seals and fuel lines in your truck's fuel system.

What do you mean "known solvent"?
known to break them down?
Any way with the gas at current prices, the savings vs the cost of the acetone doesnt save you much if any cash. If rwenzing meant they destroy the seals/o-rings its gooing to cost you a fuel leak with a possible fire.
Not worth it IMO.

Bottom line: might have been a good idea for older generation vehicles -- it is not for newer ones.
Remember that the bad effects will take a while to occur. You will not dissolve o-rings overnight at the concentrations we're talking about here -- but you will dissolve them.
I was going to try it too and changed my mind. You've been "warned", lol.
Remember: TANSTAAFL: There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch
Hype works wonders to convince people since it saturates a communication medium with information and the very volume of data tends to lend credibility to an idea -- but that is just marketing, and not proof.

Can you come up a more vague of a description please?
1. Some solvents my also be used to clean contamination off of parts and not damage them. Im glad you added something usefull explaining properties of acetone.
2. If your going to tell me to look at -Dictionary.com - -google.com- or - howstufworks.com-
ATLEAST SPELL MY USERNAME CORRECTLY.
If you need a hint.
^------ look up
rwenzing
I didnt mean any disrespect as perceived by KARPE, I was looking for clairifaction on how you meant solvent.
I hate childish activity such as flamers, thread crappers, and alike. This forum has good info with good people, dispite the occasional hot head.

i wasnt flaming you, but now I will. your last name is listed as blade, so thats how I addressed you. How do you not recognise your last name smarty pants.
you wanna talk about vague you asked for what he meant by "known solvent". context clues should have given that away but since that wasnt clear I gave you a definition.
I didn't percieve any disrespect from you so dont go explaining my motives for me please. I was just given you a definition of what you asked for so go jump on some one elses E-***. its the internet so go be tuff guy somewhere else. again I wasnt burning you so that was uncalled for

When you talk about a cleaning solvent that removes grease but does not damage the underlying steel part, you are saying that it is a solvent of grease but it is not a solvent of steel.
Water is a solvent of table salt.
Toluene is a solvent of styrene plastics.
Acetone is a solvent of Viton and Buna-N, common automotive fuel system materials.
[Now, before some chemistry major jumps in here, there is also a more technical definition of a solvent. The solvent is the component of a solution that is present in the greatest amount. It is the substance in which the solute is dissolved. For example, pure water is the solvent of the solution called seawater.]

Refering someone to a search type website is considered a flame to someone who uses forums on a regular basis, if not you atleast me. I asked rwenzing to explian his statment and really didnt need -Dictionary.com - as the answer. As far as the using my name i had no idea this site posted my info in the upper left thats a real invasion of my privacy. Until you pointed it out i never looked there. I dont wish my name to be used like that my fault for not looking. Flame me if you wish i dont care, you will do it by yourself.

just a little update,
I apologize I was in a really bad mood when i wrote that response. My time of the month I guess lol, sorry. I should have just clarified my intentions.
as for hiding your info, the only thing you can really hide is you r email address. I went thru the USER CP and couldnt find any option to hide your name or anything. I guess you could always change your listed name to "almost anonymous" lol.
If you are at all worried about getting none of the members over here are that scary. 99.5% of us have more respect than dig up stuff unless it was a case like Pirate4x4. this is a place of respect, and I didnt show that very well but, we all have our moments.
this isnt an attempt to be like the "bigger man". its just an apology so......sorry about flame war

This doesn't have anything to do with the "last name issue", but it has a lot to do with the original thread topic...

What a BSer. At 50 MPH, he claims that his Neon delivers 50 MPG with acetone added and 30 MPG without it. I think he gives one hit to the car and two to himself....
On second thought, maybe not. To verify this magic, the author advises readers to buy a $125 Scan Gauge tool. And, OBTW, did I forget to mention that he sells them on his website?

Using the ScanGauge at 50MPH, my best mileage was 48-52 in my Neon a few weeks ago. Then I stopped the acetone to do some reverse testing. The next four tanks of the same Texaco gas showed 42-43, 37-38, 33-34, 30-31. No acetone when each tank was filled at half-full. The drop was about 20 MPG overall.

"This inexpensive tool should end a lot of debate over what works for mileage and what does not." -- Louis LaPointe

my point was not that he used my RL name but the fact he has access to it. I have invested alot of time money and effort into my truck try to make it distinctive. I dont want someone in my town targeting my truck after seeing my info like that on the net.
Im not mad OTHERWISE I WOULD BE TYPING LIKE THIS, i just want to get my point across. As do the rest of you.
Enough hijacking
