Chip / Tuner for a 95 / 3rd Gen Ranger - Is it possible? Noticeable benefits?

Just looking into making my truck more efficient or powerful.
I am just starting to learn and research chips and tuners more and looking for some knowledge. My uncle got a tuner for his 7.3L turbo diesel and it made a significant difference.

Now I know I wont see any kind of difference like that but I am just curious on if I would see some. Another question I have is if it is even possible on a 95 cause of the OBD and such?

Thanks in advance.

This started my interest.

Before I owned my 95, my friend had a chip on it... Jet chip I believe. It made a difference, I could tell when he took it off to sell it to a friend... But the truck also had some bolt ons...dont know if it would make much dif on a stock setup.

You can get one, They make a little difference but not for the money. Certainly not like one for a powerstroke does. These trucks dont have the potential in the injectors to turn up the power like a diesel.

95 is the year they switched... Some are, some aren't... Mine was obd1... Diesel = turbo... So obviously it's going to make a world of difference... Turbo your 4.0, then tune it and it will make a world of difference too. The jet chip did make a difference... But the $300 he sold it for was worth more than what the chip actually did.

gotcha! If it's not worth it, not getting it. I don't have extra money to throw at it haha.

My friend has a 05 5.4L Triton F150, would anything for his help?

yea, the sct tuner would help him. of course some add ons really help it such as exhaust, intake.

if you decide to take the above advice (turbo the 4.0L) it is cheaper to just swap in a v8. the money you would spend on making the 4.0L hold up to the boost can be done for a lot less with the 302 swap. there are tons of threads on numerous sites about what the v8 swap entails and which donor vehicles would be best for you.
