exhaust opinions

looking at waking up my 99 4.0 with a better flowing exhaust. I dont want to dump 500 into a bolt on system but would like a nice sounding muffler on it. Any opionions. I had a magnaflow on my old one and it wasnt bad sounding and the guy at the muffler shop mentioned a glass pack but dont want to loose to much back pressure or the gas mileage will drop.

i have super 40 series, with straight duals out the back w/ tips. it sound great. It's got a nice low rumble to it, I love it. And it's not at all annoying. I got mine done at place where they do custom exhaust by me, two christian guys own the shop, they're very religious, and do GREAT work.

I had a muffler shop fab up a custom exhaust for my truck recently for $320 with a Gibson muffler. I had a Gibson on my last truck and liked how it sounded but wanted to have duals exiting in front of the rear tire instead of behind, and I didn’t want to remove my spare tire. I figured Gibson had selected the odd 2.5” inlet and dual 1.75” outlets on all their exhaust kits for a reason so I had the shop order their superflow muffler #758216 that had the same dimensions. The shop used 2” pipe on the exits, I guess it’s what they had or it was just easier to do. Anyhow it sounds good without being too loud, I guess you may think it sounds ricy at WOT when its pushing a lot of air, but at idle and while driving sounds deep without being too loud when I'm running on the highway. sorry no sound clip as of yet. Ive got a picture if I can ever figure out how to load it.

well I ended up with a flo-pro. I didnt realize I had a dual inlet single out on mine so it made it a little more difficult to find something. It sounds alot like the flowmaster with out the cabin noise.

you can try a straight pipe. I have one and love it. It only cost me $45 installed so if you don't like it, it's not like you wasted a ton of money. I have a sound clip and pics of my pipe in both of my sig links below.
