AEM Brute Force vs K&N

hey fellas,

Ive always been a K&N baby. This is my 4th Ranger and Ive had them on all. Gettin somewhere between 5-7 added HP. I was looking at the Brute Force and was wondering if any of you have this. Are there any differences? I like the aluminum instead of just plain rubber for the hose but is HP about the same? I know the filter for Brute is supposed to be cotton no oil.....Anyone have a story on this? Am I just better goin with what I know? Thanks

Intakes are all the same - You will not see much of any gain on a stock motor. Get whatever looks the best that is the most inexpensive. I have a MAC, it looks good and isint too much $

intakes are not all the same, I have had several different ones installed on my truck and most were the same, all they did was look nice and make noise, not much gain. I have since put a k/n fipk kit on and it is not the same...much better throttle response, slight improvment in mpg, and not as loud. Also, the k/n uses a molded plastic tube. The metal tubes, besides being much cheaper to produce, transfer much more heat from your engine compartment. The kits that have the metal tubes, in a way, defeat the whole purpose of a "cold air intake".

I just go with what I know. I have used K&N in all my trucks. I have the FIPK in my Ranger, had one in my '98 also. Good product! I also have a 14"x4" round filter in my '79 F150.

Any kit that is taking air from inside the engine compartment is defeating the whole purpose of a "cold air intake".

I went with AEM cause I liked the idea of not haveing to oil the filter, my brother has k&n on his camaro though and they do make a very good quality product and made a huge difference for him, I think next time I may go with k&n myself, but I do like the AEM aswell.

was just clarifying that it's not just "metal" intake runners that are not cold air...including some K&N kits as they don't draw colder, denser outside air.
