K&N... NEED HELP!

I picked it up tonight from Leon and I love it. Installed in about 30 minutes but that's partly because Leon had it almost all together. :)

The problem... At 2200 rpm and a around 4600 rpm it makes a very very high pitch noise. Otherwise when I'm cruising at abotu 65 on the highway and hit the gas a little bit it makes it too.

When i floored it onto the highway after 4600 it made a sucking noise but no high pitched noise. But then when it dropped to 4th and 5th and hit those points it made it.

My question is.... Is this normal for these filters. It sounds like the noise that comes from the power steering when you crank on it on pavement to a lock while pushing on the brake. But it's still louder and more high pitched.

Otherwise I love it but please help!

Yeah, I would definitley give any vacuum hoses and tubes around the intake tube a good look over.

I have a k&n intake also and mine does the same thing. I think it is just normal. It got quieter as it got broke in. But if you are really worried about it call up K&N tech support and ask them about it.

It's normal noise coming from the intake, Just the sound of the air at certain speeds. Kind of like when you whistle with your lips. Mine does it at approx 2500 rpm's. I can actually be going down the road, hold it at that rpm and slightly change the pitch with the gas pedal. I do it next to ricer's when they have a window down :p

Don't get me wrong... I think it's cool but I'm really just worried that I have a hole somewhere or the filter is slit in a spot. I'm going to give it a look through tomorrow and we'll see what I find. I also noticed I need to clean out my engine bay. Any tips on this as well? Should I just use some water and wipe it all down?

And thanks a lot for the quick replys. Takes a big load of my back.

I thought you were talking the drop in replacement. If its the whole FIPK then I believe its normal. I know a lot of ricer intakes (not that yours is one) make that noise.

Are you happy with it other than that? Did you notice any performance gain?

^ We'll see what happens when I get my buddy to do a ride along clock again. But otherwise yeah it seems to be breaking in on my truck. I only drove around about 50 miles... Mainly trying to figure out where the noise was coming from.

One thing I did notice is that when I do hold the brake and get the gas reved to about 2.5k and then release and let the pedal hit the floor (what I've been testing for racing my friends) it will jump to the redline quicker. Not amazingly fast but noticable. And I was finally able to lay down a nice little line of rubber from it.
