I paid $3200 for my 98 4x4 4.0 with a blown head gasket. Want to sell some stuff of yours?
um.. look at what yours was then look at what mine is.. Probably a HUGe difference.. 2 years, and probably a ton of miles.. My ranger only has 85K on it. And he used this camera thing that he put into the spark plug hole, he could see the crack.. he took a picture of it, so he never took the heads off..

G.C.F.,

Not trying to rain on your parade, but run the blue book on your truck and I think you will be shocked at what you may get for it. If you spend a grand on your truck, (doin all the work yourself,) the top half of the motor and all the gaskets will be brand new. This was a major factor for me when I replaced my heads.

just something to think about.

I definately would suggest not doing that. 4.0 heads tend to crack in between the intake/exhuast valves and there's no point in getting JY heads for that very reason. Remember, even with cracked heads it will still run.

Like I said before, I got two BRAND NEW heads for $450 which including valve job, valve seals, and swapping over my valves/valve springs.

Pull the heads, have them pressure checked...It's very common to have small cracks between valves.
