loud exhaust!!

hey, i want a loud ! but i dont have much money to spend (just orderd lift kit and tires) but a few months ago i went to Canadian Tire and got a Chery Bomb mufler (35$ cheep, but kinda loud) and its not loud enough, so i was wondering what i can do to make my truck loud.
could i take out 1 of my 2 cats? could i take them both out and if i dont have a code reader how do i get my check engine light off? if this is done can i buy pipe and like some sort of connectors or do i have to weld the pipe on?
and since its a 97 dose it have to be taking to some sort of inspection when its 10 years old that this would fail if it was done?

thanks

get a flowmaste muffler and downturns(lil 4-8 inch pipes that basically turn straight down after the muffler sorta towards the ground. And by the way, to go louder you'd need a bigger engine. YOu could hack off ur whole exhaust tho.

I'd relaly recommend just switching to a flowmaster muffler and downturns. downturns cost like...5 bucks at Napa. Flowmaster can be picked up for 40 bucks on ebay I know, which isn't too bad. You shouldn't remove Cats, its just not that smart and not really worth it.

You could also just wait a few weeks till you have the money to make it loud the right way.

Like its been said before look into a set of Flowmaster 40's. They give more sound than anything i've heard, next to dumped headers.

I'm pretty sure one is just a pre-cat. remove one and you might as well remove both of em. don't do it though, it'd be a bad move on your part.

You want volume? Borrow someone's sawzall, cut off the second cat, run a $5 piece of tubing to the muffler, clamp everything together, and use a piece of wire to hang it all up to the frame. No turndown. All the tubing, reducers, and clamps: ~$15. Takes about 1-3 hours to install. Do you have emissions? If not, don't worry about it. Me and my friends do a lot of work with exhaust and I do know what is loud. Then, if you get some more money, go to an exhaust shop and have them run duals out the back, and put some 4" tips on it. Cost is about $150-$200. I don't know how good this will sound, but it will be loud.

How could you cut the last cat off without the sensor realizing it, its less restrictive and i think it would throw the idiot light wouldnt it? Or the truck would run like ***. Im not sure because i was told by a guy that did it, he cut his last cat off right behind the sensor and it threw the idiot light, and he had to put it back on for NH inspections

im an emissions specialist in my state and if any emissions components are missing you automatically fail...it would definately throw your 02 sensor off too

yeah the idiot light is the CEL.. oh and you just gotta make sure that light stays off before you take it back up to the shop.. i dunno about where you are, but down here in texas they wont even look at ur vehicle if the CEL is on.

Here either...thats y its like, is it even worth that little bit of sound to go thru teh BS with the state, because trust me, in NH they will make you miserable with stuff. It just took a year to pass the law saying we could have aftermarket exhaust, before it was illeagle, and im 100% dead serious. The NH law stated "if the aftermarket exhaust system does not match or replicate the stock routing, then it will be deemed illeagle and will not pass nh state inspection"...You could have it as loud as you wanted, but it had to be stock routing, and if they seen you with it any different boy watch out cause they would find EVERYTHING that was illeagle, tail lights, tinted windows, clear corners.

heres an i dea my friend jsut recently did for his chevy ss pick up, he put in an electonic exhaust cut out its pretty cool form jsut a swithc he can make his truck super loud coming straight from the mainfold and gets dumped out right after the valve or hit the switch again and closes the opening and have the exhaust go threw the pipe into the stock or performance exhaust, im not too shure how it'll sound on a v6 ranger but it'll be loud, but im not sure if its legal soo might want too look into that, but just givin you an idea if your intrested

He just said he wanted loud, so I gave him advice. The last truck I drove only had one cat, and I cut off the exhaust about 10 inches behind it. Drove it like that for almost a year before it flipped the CEL on. Said I had a weak emission system. It may be awhile before the CEL comes on.

Also, if you decide to keep it legal, use smaller tubing and your single glasspack. It will be loud too.

Naw, you didn't. I do see that happening sometimes. It may throw off the the CEL because the lack of back pressure, but there mey be enough back pressure to not turn it on for a while. That's probably what made mine go off on my other truck.

I k now NH is strict on the emissions law, if you take any of them off they freak right out. It sucks cause they hastle us so much here....

Hey i got a question for you, say our trucks throw the CEL light, does it store it in the computers memory? I know i drive a Peterbuilt dump truck at work and if it throws the light it stores it in the computers memory. Do our trucks do that also?
