Intermittent leak??

Hi guys.

As my poor 02 Ranger XLT 5 speed creeps up in mileage, I'm starting to see more and more problems.

This time, it's an intermittent leak that I cannot seem to eliminate.

Here's where I usually see it. Sometimes it leaks like a siv, other times it's bone dry.

Now, I can already see where this is going: Check the hose and the rad for cracks. I've checked, and double checked, and triple checked EVERYWHERE that I can see. The hose has been replaced twice and I cannot see anywhere on the rad that would have a leak.

Rad reservoir is right at the level it should be and the rad itself is topped off.

Here's the remnants of a previous leak. Whatever is leaking is usually right from the bottom of the top rad hose, all the way down to the bottom of the rad.

Am I missing something small? Is this a common leak? Am I just an idiot?

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Tank leaking somewhere in the area. Next time it leaks, have it pressure tested.

It is most likley its the upper hose that is leaking and is leaking because the aftermarket hoses are to wide and coolent is leaking around it. If there is no visual crack in the radiator than the hose is a likley source. I had the same problem where I purchased 3 or 4 upper hoses from carquest, advance auto, autozone. ect only to find that the oe from ford was the only one that would not leak

Alright then. I will check out what the cost of the OE hose is, probably some time today as the dealer here doesn't have weekend hours.

It better not be something extorsionary, like $100.

Thanks.

It could be the seal between the tank and rad cores.

I'd try the hose and the hose clamp. Make sure they fit tight.
