just got a xcal2

so i just got my xcal2 and when i run any of the three tunes on my truck i get a pinging noise. it seems to happen right around 2k rpm and when its under a load or when i start to get after it. I have herd that the cause of that has to do with pre ignition. has anyone else had this problem? what did you do to fix it? im going to try and adjust the spark and see if that makes a difference. any other ideas?

are you using the appropriate grade of fuel? if you loaded a 93 octane tune and are using 87 octane fuel, could be the cause.

Something you ought to do is run the fuel down pretty low and then refill with the fuel you intend to use.
Then, reprogram the PCM. Then disconnect the battery. Then turn on/off the headlights and reconnect the battery. This will reset everything including tranny functions.
Then.. let it relearn the idle functions (search under my recent posts on how to do it)

Your on the right track. Run what every fuel you want and then play with the tune to get it to not ping. *Then* back it off another 2 degrees of timing.

Also, if you have a laptop you can hook up to the X-CAL 2 and the pcm and data log. Having the laptop beside you on the seat lets you see live what timing your actually running.

You may want to try cleaning your MAF sensor, since your running a K&N.
A dirty MAF sensor will cause pinging.
