Rough Jerk in Brakes or Transmission...
hey guys I'm knew to this site. I just bought a 2001 Ranger Edge so I can keep my Mustang stored in the Garage. .. ..
Anyways, my truck is having a rough jolt or jerk once I initially hit the gas after its been parked. Its hard to explain and this is my first truck so I don't know if it's normal because of the low gear ratio or what....
It also happens when I come to a complete stop and then go to hit the gas the truck feels like it jerks or jolts once or twice while shifting in then out of first gear but it shifts through the other gears just fine. It's only when I'm to a stop or pretty close to it. I don't know if it can be ABS related or there is something wrong with the gears or transmission.
I hope i explained that well enough and you guys can help me...Thanks a lot

Try a search on "slip yoke" or "slip bump" to find several threads and lots of info/opinions on this subject.

no its not ur tranny if u look on ur driveshaft going to ur rear diff ull see a black boot on it u can greese inside the boot and close it back up again and it should go away it is just lack of lupe on the slip shaft.
if u notice when u hit the gas ur trucks rear lowers and when u hit ur brakes the truck leans forward and the slip shaft is moving with it like a shock type of thing.
traction bars that i have are James Duff Traction bars u can go to there websight same as the name and the make it so ur rear axel can only move up and down and cant twist or move any other direction accept the way the axel is sposto move.
u cna also do what bob said to do and do a search for the topic they will have more info on it prob.

Here's a link:

Your 2001 uses:
#5304 '98+ Ranger Small Housing $89.00
Fairly easy to install. You need to drill 3 holes on each side in the forward spring hangers. The rest is bolt on.

hey thanks a lot. so these traction bars should fix this problem I'm having? are they easy to install or are they a pain in the a$$? pretty much these traction bars just keep the driveshaft and differential from sliding in different directions which make it jerk once i stop or hit the gas, they just keep my rear end more stable??? hey thanks a lot...and these tractions bars for $89 comes with all the other hardware required?

All hardware is included. Not hard to install if you are at all mechanically inclined. Like I said above, you have to drill 3 holes per side, the rest is bolt on.

when coming to a stop and almost stopped or just starting my truck seems to bump a little bit....is this what you are referring to as your problems with the slip yoke?.....the best way i could explain it is 3 or 4 bumps...happens sometimes when stopping but more so when im just starting off slowly....if i hit the gas hard it kicks right in gear and takes off....if i ease onto the throttle this will occur with the bumps.....then it shifts fine in all gears....same problem as the slip yoke or does this sound different?

yea that's exactly the problem xxtomorrowsliexx. I've heard that if I grease the slip yoke it will only be a temporary fix and to be honest I'm not gonna take my rear end apart to just grease it and have that problem come back....if the traction bars are easy to install then i'll just do that...there cheap and it seems that they will fix this problem me i guess. I just want to make sure this won't cause damage to the rear end if say i do nothing at all. this jerk is "normal" for the most part and not anything serious.
Let me know: slip yoke greased or traction bar install???
thanks guys
