ok, i have 92,000+ on the odo, The engine runs strong. what is the service life of the 4.0l SOHC motors? its an auto, I can feel the miles in the tranny alittle the mileage is not as good as it used to be, used to get 17-18 avg. now more like 14-15 avg. do they make a rebuild kit for the 03 4l autos? how much? how about a shift kit? would a tuner effect the trans, make it feel younger? is there anything else that i should consider relacing with these mile? suspension components, steering components, etc...

I KNOW the engine they are selling. I was looking at it this past week for someone on the forums here. Its out of a sport trac that lost its **** end.
I'm in their yard about once a month and do business with them. They would probably let you pick it up instead of paying the 400$ shipping.

not usure bout the fuel filter, any special type you recommend? would you get the tranny flush though? how hard is it to change the atf and the autos filter? i kno the oil filter is new, the air filter is new. wwho makes performance plug wires for our trucks, and what is a good plug? ill also get the fuel filter which one does it matter? does anyone make a shift kit for our trucks? i put the lucas atf fix in but not the atf, but i will put the atf and the fix in when i get it flushed (good idea? or should i just change it?)oh and do you add the lucas trans fix after u put in atf, or do you substitute a bottle of it for some atf? i have 92000+ on my truck, do you think i should rebuild the tranny? I dont hear it slip when it shifts at redline, so i dont think i need the rebuild, but wat u think?
would a bamachips tuner or another tuner do anything to the trans, i.e. shift points, etc...?

just a basic fuel filter from auto parts store will work.
you have to substitute in 1 quart of lucas for a quart of ATF.
I would have the tranny flushed.
not sure about running both lucas products in the tranny. id just buy regular mercron ATF for the ranger and install one less quart in substitute of Lucas trans fix.
here is a link for plug wires and he sells the plugs. (good Seller)

he sells fuel filters too

as far as the shiftkit and tuners... if it was me i would get the BamaChips Tuner or flip chip from
http://jusnesmodified.com/store/inde...th=155_183_200
it will greatly improve mpg, shift points, and overall performance. plus it reads trouble codes and data logger....
if you dont feel the tranny is that bad i wouldnt rebuild it.
easy way to tell if the valve boy is going out is to go out in an empty paring lot and put it in 1st gear. start to take off and get the rpm pretty high. once they are up around 3500-4000 let off the gas and see if it feels likethe tranny is slowing the truck down. if it is your valve body is still in working condition if it doesnt and it just rolls then i would look into rebuilding it.
i would flush the tranny and get all the maintance stuff done soon too.

i would get heat braided. there are places on the 4.0 that the stock plug wires have wire loom on them, with the heat braid you wont have to worry about loom. plus it looks cool.
only reason i said that about hte tranny fluid is im not sure if you can mix both their products. find out if you can before you do it. im sure you can but i dont want to give you information that im not sure about.

the plug wires are a certian length. do each plug and wire at a time. or each cylinder at a time before moving to the next.

don't take this the wrong way i am just trying to give an example
to swap out the whole engine because of high mileage is like putting in stitches when you only need an band aid.
I am not sure about the 4.0L SOHC(I only have 34,000 mile on mine) but on other engine i have had i would start thinking about: water pump, timing belt, power steering pump, those kind of things can go up around 100k to 140k-ish. i would think the internals(pistons, crank, valves) would be good for a long time.
Just keep an eye on your belts and hoses and stuff, do you plugs and wires and you should be fine.
