lifters gone bad?
before i get yeeled at, i did do a search but i would like to know a little more. here is the problem.
just bought a 99 ranger last week. 113k 4.0 auto 2wd. sounded healthy, well did the oil change to 10-30 full synthetic and the loud ticking noise appeared. more like marble bouncing at idle. my friends says its the lifters not getting oil and the pushrod hiting the rockers? he took everything off except the heads, we still don't know if its that any advise on how to check or any hot to's would be appreciated..
i really need to know asap as i need the truck really bad for work and if its that im looking at 500 350 for lifters and 150 for head gasket kit.
later on i discovered the intake elbob was cracked from underneath the turn i need a new one thanks for all the suppot in advance

You can pull out the lifters, use one of the pushrods and try and compress the lifters. If you do such, use a hard plastic cup with some oil in it. Submerge the lifter then try to ' pump ' it.
When lifters collapse, they can lead to the noises your hearing as well as intake/exhaust valves not opening or not opening enough.
