RMPs weird at idle...??
I thought I saw a thread about this not too long ago and I already tried to find it w/no success.
My truck has been acting funky the last few weeks (or at least thats when I started to notice it). When Im sitting at a stand still, my truck (and this is the best way I can describe it) feels like when you are sitting on a horse and its all excited to go but you dont want it to...like its jumpy. At the same time the RPMs jitter at around 500 or so (this is after it settles down from 1000).
Any ideas what might be causing the problems?

I went through a mud puddle a few times like a month and a half ago...but it just started doing this a few weeks ago...?

Disconnect your battery for a half hour. My friend Cheryl is had teh same issue with her exploder. I hooked my digimoto unit up to it.. no codes, mappes the rpm's.. They were dropping down to 470 and racing back up to around 1100.. then dropping... after letting her truck sit/run for 5 minutes, the problem would go away.. till she re-started the vehical.
Its been about a week ( since this past saturday ) and the problem hasn't come back yet.

Well it only seems to do this sometimes...like today on my way to class it was fine sitting still for a few min b4 it started to act up.
When I took my truck into the dealership a while ago they said that I needed to get my fuel filter changed (which I didnt have them do) so would this cause a problem? Maybe its running too rich?

How long has it been doing this? Is the CEL on? Does it make any sounds when it happens(anything that isn't a normal engine sound? Does it only happen at certain temps(engine or environment)?
Your problem sounds similar to one I'm having. I think I've almost narrowed the problem down, but not 100% sure yet.
I doubt it's the IAC - when mine went bad, I knew something was going bad - it made a loud whining noise and it sounded like something sucking into a vacuum.
The "stumble" your describing mine has been doing for a few weeks. It only does it when I first crank it and its cold though. After it warms up to normal operating temps, it's fine. But I'm thinking mine is low fuel pressure.

anyways, mine was doin that on and off. it will go away for a while then come back. i say try cleaning the mass air sensor and unplug the battery and let it all reset...........
or you can just wait till i come home and i'll do it for ya

^^^ thanx for clearing that up...I am indeed a she
The mass air sensor should be fine, it was replaced not too long ago...unless it got extremly dirty recently...which probably isnt too far off
it dosnt make any other odd noises then the ones it always does...the timming chain rattles...but thats about it

Have to agree.....
with Rangererv.....
Since your problems started a while after going thru the mud puddle.... there is a good chance some dirty moisture could have been pulled thru the air filter and deposited on the MAF filaments and inside the IAC between the solenoid disc and seat.
Remove the MAF sensor and spray the filaments with throttle body cleaner; then remove and clean the IAC solenoid disc and seat. Since the MAF filaments provide the ECM with air flow information for adjusting air/fuel ratio and the IAC opens and closes to regulate engine idle... either can cause problems with engine operation.
Recently I removed the MAF while cleaning the K&N conical air filter; even though the filaments looked clean... I sprayed throttlebody cleaner on them anyways.... Since then..... the mileage per 1/4 tank appears to have increased. Will know more once I need to fill up.....

My 03 has this problem...when at idle, when the ac compressor kicks on the idle will drop down to like 500 then jump back up to 750 or whatever is normal, if in park, the truck shakes when it does it, but in drive at a red light or just sittin there, it will jump......i was going to take it to ford, but i think i might try to clean up the MAF and the IAC and see what i can find out...im going to find the "how to" for those 2....but does it do with when your heaters on ?? thats the ONLY time mine does it, if the heater is off it doesnt do it at all...
