4.0L SOHC = N/A V8 Lightning
My sister's boyfriend, also my friend, has a Gen 1 SVT Lightning, this truck is built (supercharger, aftercooler, exhaust with offroad x pipe, one if not more gutted cats, suspension, the works) and its LOUD! (just ask Larson, r0ng5).
Anyways, he had his supercharger off over the weekend because he was rebuilding it (new bearings, smaller pulley, etc.) and we wanted to race each other to see how my V6 would hold up to his n/a V8. So we go out late, to this abandoned airfield and we both punched it from about a 35mph roll...and to my amazement we hung dead even the whole time (we did this three times)...our front bumpers stayed within 3 inches of each other the entire time. I was proud of my sohc, hanging dead even with a V8 that was designed for speed. And the good news is that i was only running my 87 octane program on my Bamachip! He agreed that with the 91 octane program i could probably pull on him slowly.
After that we went back to his house and re-installed his supercharger.

yah...
they probably had 302's in them....which really doesnt put out all that much hp...i think Truckin magazine dyno'd a stock 350 chevy truck and got maybe 223? hp...somethin like that...and they weigh more
u're truck with the right programming and mods will pull a stock v8 easily....
but then they bring in the strokers and heads and cams and intake manifolds and NOS, and blowers.....thas when we head home...

leo, how do u race people? in that i mean, how do u get peopl inthose trucks to race u? when i rev it at them...they just look at me like "u idiot...read the badge...HEMI...no contest" and i just wanna see how i'd do...
so then i settle for revvin it at imports...haha...and even them look at me like "u idiot redneck...i'm not racing u in that big *** truck...my fart pipe will TOTALLY demolish you"
so they never race or anything....

I believe a ranger would take a V8 like that. I saw a supercharged lightning at the Nopi show at Steele, AL last year and just was like like -raises a eyebrow- that was slow. Then again it was completely stock, but still.
GJ man....I want a 4.0 now, but then again I want a lot of choices so 302 has my eye right now...think both can be SC. Not going turbo on the truck...I will on my Sentra years down the road.

Wowak thanx for clearing that up, it irks me when people spit out information they arent sure on.
BTW, those Gen 1 Ls (1993-1995) ran an average 1/4 in the low 15s which isnt fast but remember its a basic 351W. the handling on them is supurb and will **** on a Gen 2 L if they both had a blower and same boost.

BELIEVE THIS OR NOT.... a local compnay is CRAZY enough to throw a 351 cleve. in my friends 93 ranger... now... power to wieght ratio :D... SRT-10's Watch out (we still would have no chance)... this guys it totally nuts, and this will be their second 351 swap into a ranger, the owner has a s-10 with a 350 in it... nice too.. along with his other 6 trucks.
They will make a new driveshaft, front suspension, ecu, exhaust, everything, which lowers cost since they do everything.
And isn't the Lightning coming back in '07 since the cobra will be back? From what i heard they had that concept ready for production then the SRT-10 came out.. so they went back to the drawing board so they can kill dodge with the Lightning.. ahhh the horsepower wars are back. THANK YOU GOD!!!

SRT-10...
The basics:
Officially announced; these specs confirmed 11/03 (published 2/03!)
0-60 in 5.2 seconds
13.8 second quarter mile
.92 g skid-pad
World's speed record set February 2, 2004
http://www.allpar.com/model/ram/ram-srt-10.html
13.8 on slicks with The man above pushing the tailgate. I've whooped up on 1 and a second one running around here backed down from a honda civic ( my money was actually on the civic till that mopar owner split ) .

Most intresting fact -- > " Hp to weight 10.2 "
It's not a truck, its a bloody sow. If they put all 2.25 tons of its weight ( IE: Fat *** ) over the rear wheels, it might actually catch traction and go places.
For 45grand, You could go a LOT faster then 13.something and haul a lot more ( Can we say F250 turbo diesel with a banks kit? ).
How is it a Lightning has 380 HP which gives it a 12.3 HP/Weight ratio and it still pulls down times lower then something that has more torque? Physics into play on that grip/suspension? Methinks Dodge has some terrible folks doing their testing ( maybe its the folks from their rice plants at mitsubishi that are building all their junk these days ? ).
Gimme a REAL hemi, not this new-wave yuppie rubbish.

the lightning is dead, and apparently now so is the hurricane engine, shelved indefinately.
and the 351C is a good engine to swap in, but hard to find performance parts. in fact, in my torino, i had to have a machine shop make a lot of my performance mods. but its got somewhere in the neighborhood of 450hp pulling around my 3000 lb 4 door sedan
