Need HELP with coolant system.

Okay I have a ridiculous leak. But I dont think its so much a leak as its just shooting out of the radiator cap. I have replaced the rad cap and same issue. I cant pin point any sort of real leak. Temp gauge still works so I dont think its so much the thermostat.

But today it got ridiculous how much coolant came out and went everywhere. (It has slowly been getting worse.)

Also my heater stopped blowing hot today.

My thoughts are my water pump is shot and i need to go ahead and just replace it.

With that being said anyone have a good write up.. I used search and wasnt to impressed with my results.

Thanks guys.

I think you may have lost so much fluid, that it's not going into the heater core. Top that baby off.

Don't think the water pump is gone if the fluid is low.....this would be the first bad water pump I've ever heard of on the SOHC. Could be the water pump seal though. You've checked all the hoses and eliminated some?

I don't recall water pumps on the 4.0L SOHC being covered here before. May have to head over to ExplorerForum and take a look. Or pick yourself up a Ford Factory Service Manual off ebay.

Hmm. Maybe thats why. But why would I have coolant overflowing in such mass quantities?

I will top it off and see. I can smell coolant when I run the truck hard to.

find out where its coming from. and fix it. lol.

my subaru would run for a little bit of time then it'd get overheated. I was thinking sticking theromostat. Replaced the thermostat only to find out that my rad was empty and as I was filling it up, I found a huge leak at the water pump. I suspect seal for exploded water pump housing. Time to pull the timing belt and gear sets to get to it.

I just recently found out where my coolant was leaking to.

For the longest time my coolant system was leaking, but I never really seen any major puddles. Well after giving my undercarriage a good clean, I found that when I hit the cats with water, it dripped yellow. Turns out my coolant has been leaking out from behind the water pump (not the seal itself, but behind that, front main seal?) and dripped down the exhaust pipe and collected in the heat shields of the cats. Talk about wild.

You might want to check under the intake manifold and look and see if you have a puddle of coolent latley there has been a rise in the 4.0 SOHC upper and lower thermostat housing leaking as well as the sensors this could be your problem if you need a write up on this heres the link http://bengrosser.com/howto/fordthermostat/
best of luck
Justin
