I ran into this mess a little while back too. I used a breaker bar and cheater bar to loosen the plug and get the leverage needed with such limited work space. Then shoved my arm under the hoses and unscrewed it by hand. Ya it's a fight but it's gotta come out somehow. Also with what somebody said on here, I used to have an S-10 Blazer as well. Hated trying to fight the plug that was right behind the steering column. Real PITA as well.

o plz it doesnt hurt i cut my hand one time and had a puddle of blood on the floor and then i got up when i was done and clean off my arm and my hands then drove my self to the hospital to get a stitch in my finger. lol my mom was screaming at me till i was done with my truck and i told her i wasn't going any where till i got it done.

what year is your Ranger
mine is a 2002 4L and I can change the plugs in less than a half hour ... the key is to take the passenger side whell off and splash gaurd as noted ... all I use is a 3/8" ratch, 6" extension and a universal ... put the uni next to the socket and it's a piece of cake .........

I removed the wheel and the wheel well. If I ever have to do mine again im taking it to the dealer. Heres a how-to I did a long time ago.

There are 2 methods to do this:
Method 1:
Items Needed:
A gallon of gas or two
Cash, Check or Credit Card
Keys
Step one: Open door and enter the cab of your truck
Step two: Insert Key into ignition and drive to your local ford dealer
Step three: Walk into said dealer and hand them your preferred form of payment.
Step four: Wait for the machanics to change your plugs.
Step five: Repeat step one.
Step six: Drive home.
Method 2
Items Needed:
A Plug socket along with a ratchet wrench.
Medical Insurance.
A lead pipe.
A couple of Band-aids.
Friend. (optional)
Step one: Remove passenger side tire.
Step two: Locate plugs.
Step three: Break arm with lead pipe. I like to do this to my left arm, because Im right handed so breaking the left arm works the best in the long run. I also like to break it in 2 places.
Step four: Use Band-Aids to stop any bleeding.
Step five: Change spark plugs.
Step six: Replace tire.
Step seven: Drive yourself to the hospital. If you are feeling at all dizzy get a friend to drive you.

Drivers side was a breeze.. but the passengers side.. oof, I'm going to try mapp gassing it.. I'm pretty sure someone put some loc-tite on it, I've almsot stripped it trying to get it out :-(
