slow to start

I have a question thats probably been covered before......
My 03 ranger 4.0 turns over way to much before starting........anyone have a clue?

same here. but 3.0 motor. it cycles on every time but just take a few extra revolutions

As a matter of the fact, yes. Thoughts:

*Is the CEL on at any time other than starting?

*What happens if you cycle the key on/off maybe 3-5 times (ie, turn to run position, power on, but don't crank it), and for about three seconds each time, then after doing this, try to start it? If it promptly starts when you do this, then the problem is quite likely a bad check valve in the fuel pump. There's a very slight that an injector is bleeding down when it's parked, this is what a quick diagnostic with a fuel pressure gauge will reveal.
