Bad Fuel Pump Signs??

Wondering if my fuel pump is bad. Truck went from spitting and sputtering on trying to start it to just not starting at all.

I've replaced the idle air control and checked fuses and none of that has worked. No CEL's are present.

What are the signs and symptoms of a bad fuel pump and how do you test it? I"ve also heard the best way to get to it is too take my bed off? Thanks, Mike

Search bro. I can almost guarantee you'll find someone who's had a similar issue.

In order to check if your fuel pump is working first turn the key forward and listen for the pump to prime. It should run for 5 to 20 seconds. If the pump is turning on then next thing I would check is fuel pressure at the rail. There is a shrader valve on the fuel rail that is similar to the valve on your tires, that you can hook up and check the actually pressure. It should be over 30 psi. Start with that and let us know.

Swap out the fuel pump relay in the distribution box under the hood. They are known to fail.

Thanks for the help guys, but my Ranger is dead in my driveway. I can't get it to Auto Zone or somewhere to test the fuel pressure. Does auto zone let you "borrow" those types of things?

To be honest with you, my fuel pump has never been able to be heard priming. Others have told me the same thing and you literally cannot hear anything when my key is turned?? This is even when it was running...Thanks

kinda sounds like a fuel pump..

my friend has a prelude that is normally a beast of a car. then one day he was following me from school to my house and it started sputtering really bad and had no power. it died and then we got it started. well when he went to leave my house later it wouldnt start. got a new fuel pump at vatozone for like 90 bucks swapped it in and it was good as new.

I did swap out the fuel relay switch and it still doesn't work.

Might be dumb questions...My fuel pump does NOT prime. There is no noise when my key is turned. Obvious indication of bad fuel pump or should I check all the electrical connections leading to the fuel pump? Should I spray something into the throttle body to try and get combustion to make sure the engine will fire AND would that again point to no fuel getting to the engine and a fuel pump issue? Thanks
