Icon9 When it rains its pours

well **** i found out today that i need a new upper control arm/ball joint and then i go to leave my house and my truck wont start it acts like its not getting any juice.


so here is a video and as soon as i turned off the camera it started but the RPM meter is from me pushing on the throttle and as soon as i let off of it it died but thats the only way i could get it to start.

I had the same problem, and after looking over the engine I found a vacumn line had popped off. Hooked it back up & it started & ran just fine. Can't hurt to give it a try!

you still got the stock pos battery don't you. I love it when they just click, then nothing.

are you doing the reving..? is it just idling really odd.. its a common problem with 4.0L SOHC something with the computer... 99% of the time just pull the battery cable and reset the computer fixes it.. if its just not keeping power could be the bat going bad.. do a load test..

Yes im doing the reving if i dont it just wont start at all and at the end as soon as i let off revving it died i just went out and looked to see if its a stock battery im going to bet it is b/c i saw no brand on it just the warning stuff. as for the vacume hoses im going to look in the morning when i can see stuff

Definitely check for vaccum leaks and disconnecting the battery won't hurt.

You wouldn't happen to be using E85 would you? E85 can cause starting problems in cold weather.

I'm using Regular unleaded not sure what percentage it is

Unless they are doing something totally different down by you it's probably 10% ethanol, just like up here.

you can try unplugging your battery, unplugging your ECU and cleaning all the contacts. I had a superchip installed and it would do the same thing if there was a bad contact.

ok i do know what you mean by when it rains it pours... ok i had a very simaler problem about a month ago, but mine was a little more intense... first let me say check your altinator... is it giving you a Battery light? if so its the altinator... and the reason for it dieing, and you having to rev it is because there is no power getting to anything else... i had to do that all the way home... trying to keep the truck running... hell i didnt want to push it lol... but yeah do a load test it will check everything... and keep in mind no power means no run, as cars are no longer analog anymore haha...
