MAF/IAC = confusion

Well, today i decided to clean my IAC on my 99 ford ranger 4.0. Seemed pretty cut an dry,do this dont do that blah blah..after cleaning it and reinstalling it the problem with my rough idle got worse. So, this time i took the MAF apart cleaned it and a bit of change for the better.
I just dont see why it would cuase the problem to get worse, unplugged the MAF while running and it idles back up but still doesnt run right. Some misfiriing and hesitation have surfaced as well. Just want to make sure i get the right part, I cant afford both right atm,so if anyone has a clue besides a vacuum leak would be alot of help..thx

It sounds odd that it got worse after cleaning the IAC. What kind of cleaner did you use, and did you use a new gasket when you reinstalled it?

make sure you hold the IAC with the round motor facing upward. if it is downward, the motor can fill with the cleaner

well turns out there was a crack in my gasket on the IAC..you cant just go get one..its a special order so waiting 7-10 days to get one. I just bought some RTV to see if i could seal it up with that. Not to sure on the dry time so im gonna give it 3-4 hours then try it, but its cold out and it might not harden like its supposed to....nothing like an 8$ part that leaves your truck useless. I also did make sure that the little motor was up when i cleaned it. I hope this works and thx for the help!
