Chirp
So last night my 99 4.0 started chirping. First rare when i started it, mainly stopped, then on the way home it was a constant chirp at high frequency. This sounds like the 3.0 cam synchro, but I'm not seeing any information for the 4.0. The chirp is present at idle, now intermittent.

Is it the same issue?

Knock
When I start up the idle is a little rough but it doesn't knock. The knock begins when I get on the throttle until the motor gets up to temp. When its warm it doesn't "knock" any more.

I'm a college guy with not too much money, I hope I can fix at least the chirp with my limited tools. Thanks!

the 4.0 has the same synchro with the same problems...push down on the top of the synchro and see if it changes/goes away or if you can hear it

 

Thanks for the reply! Is it in the same spot near the back of the engine? I've been looking all over and can't see it. I heard it's under the ignition coil, is this true?

 

its in the same spot as on a 3.0...cant say if the coil has to come off or not
