K & N FIPK completely F'ed my MAF sensor.

So today I picked up a FIPK intake by K&N, and I installed it making sure to completely follow every direction. It went in piece of cake, I was all finished in like 20 minutes at most. Most of that time was spent finding the tools I need.

Anyway, to get to the point. I go to start my truck up, and it starts sputtering and spitting. I just figured ok maybe the ECU has to get used to this, so I disconnected and reconnected the battery again, and it seemed to run fine for a little bit.

Next thing I know I pull out of my Gram's driveway and I don't even go 25 feet and it stops, dead right in the middle of the road.

Well the guy that usually works on my truck is about half a mile down the road, so i revved it a couple time and managed to make it that far only stalling 3 times.

He pulled a code up and he said it was my MAF sensor. We just both figured maybe I just touched it with my dirty hands, and left a little residue on it, and that's what messed it up. So he pulled it out and cleaned it, and turned the CEL off.

He told me to take it, and next thing I know I pull out of his driveway, and the CEL comes back on and it starts sputtering again. He pulled the same code back up again.

So apparently somehow my MAF got royally F'ed in this whole process. Has anyone else ever had or heard of something like this happening with an after-market intake?

Seriously I'm pissed off, I thought K&N was saposed to be some high quality s***. I went through everything I did in my head and I don't even remember doing anything wrong with the MAF.

Anyway, I just had to vent, and post this up for future references.

Did you oil the filter when you installed it? Also maybe you damaged the maf putting it in the tube.

Try one thing. Disconnect the MAF. and run it. If it runs better than it is your MAF that is causing this.

I would check the electrical connection first and go from there. You can take it off and buy MAF cleaner and clean it. Also take sure your filter isn't over-oiled.

The filter must have been over oiled from the factory if you didnt oil it. I would contact K&N about it.

That's why I asked him if he oiled it. I had a buddy install a dripping filter and wonder why his car ran like crap. He didn't know it came oiled.

Yep, I bet that happens more often than you'd think.

I didn't oil it, it came from K&N already oiled, and we already cleaned the MAF.

Agreed. You didn't bang/drop/hit/touch the sensor? Even if the filter was over oiled, it would have run fine for a while. I vote user error.

That's my only conclusion, that I may have touched it, and just not realized it. Oh well, I guess we learn from our mistakes. It's the only answer that actually makes any kind of sense.

no offence, i vote install error. might have accidently stuck a finger in there and touched the wires while installing it to the K&N adaptor plate. Total possibility.

I've never had any issues with any of my intakes(K&N, MAC, Roush), of course i'm careful. Sucks for you dude.

Got it fixed?

No, it's coming today. I just left it down at the mechanics last night since he has to inspect my truck 2day anyway, and put my muffler on and such.
