MAC intake. Is it worth it?
Jusnes Modified has Mac Intakes for 149.99. I would like to take advantage of this price and gt one, but is it really worth it? A Polished K&N i around 250 and thats kinda high, but I like the Polished pipe. MY question is are they worth those pennies, they are cheap and use a K&N filter so i figure there is no difference. The only thing I dont like is there is no heat shield.

I use one. The only difference between the K&N and teh MAC.. about 100$. The air temps are the same and they both flow about the same according to the ECO of my truck. The IAC reads about equal on them both.
People will offer that plastic doesn't retain heat like the metal does.. the air is moving so fast through it, there isn't time for it to warm up anything.

Honestly.. I couldn't tell you what it adds on a ' stock ' engine as I bought it after I had my longblock assembled. What I DO know.. as far as ' flow numbers ' are concerned.. I have a laptop and a program called ' digimoto ' that reads EVERYTHING from the PCM. IAC, intake velocity.. EVERYTHING.. The numbers are just as good as what the K&N has, in the higher RPM's, they are even better.
I have a Nozzlet for Nitrous and its one of the reasons I went with the Mac setup ( K&N froze/broke.. poorly made IMO as the factory intake tube lasted quite a while and NEVER had any problems! ).
Its not so much ' horsepower ', but usable Airflow/Torque. Remember.. a car with 250hp and 100lbft will never beat a car with 200hp and 500lbft in a race or a pull.

With my flowmaster dual exhaust.....and BAMA tuner......my truck has been starving for air for the past year....my air filter was dirty....so i ordered my MAC intake from underdog....and it rocks....
1st of all....without the ac on it has some nuts again....
2nd, WITH the ac on, it has just as much horsepower...normally if my AC was on, i wouldnt even try to race anyone or do anything.....but now i can have the ac on and still spin the tires....
I will have track times sometime soon.....without i ran 16.6......so we'll see what it does WITH
