Lifter noise on new engine rebuild 4.0l OHV
Ok
Let me start with.. This is a 2000 ranger 4x4 4.0L OHV.
I just recently purchased the long block from ATK. all sensors replaced. new oil pump.. Took my time with the install.
Last night.. I fired it up for the first time.. right off the bat one of the lifters is tapping :( ..
I just getting some thoughts on this and what if anything I can do.
I have contact ATK about it. Their technician said to go ahead and drive it 600 miles and see if it shuts up. Which I don't mind doing.
Whats your thoughts and would any thing added help.. if it is just stuck or air trapped..
Thanks.

I would say next time you start it up. let it idle for a good 10 minutes before driving. the oil might not have reached them yet.
My Grand National has a lifter tick for the first 10 minutes when it gets fired up because somebody (my old man) didn't prime his side right.
They fill up with oil and stop after a bit.

pretty sure it's not the exhaust.. Brand new gaskets / new studs . Using a stethoscope it sounds more centered then outside. I did run it for about 20 minutes on the first startup.. Thinking it would shutup as well. Never did.. I will change the oil out and drive it and see if it shuts up...

I thought Ford recommended 5-20W.
My ’88 2.9 and my ’93, 5.0 both called for 5-20 and my latest 03 Ranger 3.0calls for 5-20.
I had a garage do an oil chg and the tappets were singing when I went in to pick it up and the shop owner said they were that way when it came in , NOT !
When asked he said he used 10-30 and when I asked him to chg it to 5-20 he did without any argument.
The tappets quieted down shortly there after, so now that is all I use, although now I use 5-20 Mobile 1.
Does your Ford Manual call for 10-30 weight oil ?
