Will a 93' 4.0 be a direct swap with a 96' 4.0?

I was wondering if the 4.0l out of a 93 ranger would bolt right into my 96 b4000, and have everything hookup without a problem. From what i could tell everything seems to be the same. Cheers

Yes, but you will need to swap the intake and maybe the oil pan and oil pickup(2x4 or 4x4).
Could just be the upper intake you will have to look, '96 had the IAT(intake air temp) sensor built into the MAF sensor(6 wire), your '94 has the IAT on the upper intake and a 4 wire MAF.

The '96 will have a CPS(cam position sensor) and syncro shaft(oil pump drive), your '93 computer/wiring won't have that so you will need to swap your Oil Pump drive gear into the '96, it is just under a cover plate behind lower intake manifold.
You could just leave it but...............these syncro shafts had problems with bushings wearing out.

With engine out I would replace the rear and front main seals, they are inexpensive and a pain to do with engine in the vehicle.

Also I think Ford made a change in the crankshaft to flywheel/flexplate mounting between those years, but part numbers shows them to be the same, so just a heads up.

Thank you very much for your reply, all that information should help me out quite a bit

Hopefully all goes smoothly, going to pick up the 93' engine today and hopefully start pulling the '96 this weekend

Oops, sorry I did it the other way around, '96 into '93 truck, lol.

Same applies just in reverse
'96 upper intake and CPS/syncro onto '93 engine, lower intake maybe
